A message may appear if the memory space required to create a backup of the selected data content items on your existing Android device is insufficient. If such a message does appear, do one or more of the following:

  1. Uncheck some data content items from your old device to allow a backup file to be generated. E.g. First transfer your images, then videos and so on.
  2. If your device has SD card compatibility, move some content (videos, images, documents) to your SD card (in the old device).
  3. To transfer the rest of your data content items, add a micro SD card to your new new compatible Samsung device. *Compatible Galaxy devices only.
  1. Insert your SD card or OTG adaptor connected with your selected USB Flash Drive.
  2. Open Smart Switch on your Samsung device.
  3. Tap on the Blue Memory Card icon on the top right of the screen.
  4. Select Back up
  5. Tap on the content you would like backed up then select the blue arrow key to begin the backup process.
  6. Allow the backup to reach 100% then tap Done once complete
  7. Once you are ready to remove the USB drive or SD Card simply swipe down on your screen to access your quick settings menu > tap unmount on the external storage then safely remove from your device.

No, Smart Switch uses Wi-Fi Direct which does not require either of the devices, existing or new devices to have data connectivity or local Wi-Fi access.

You should ensure the below requisites are kept in mind for both the devices before you initiate data transfer between your existing device and the new device:

  1. Devices battery needs to be sufficiently charged prior to the data transfer.
  2. Latest Smart Switch mobile app is installed on both the devices.
  3. If using a cable, use the USB-C to USB-C cable (provided within the device box) to connect your device to your new Samsung mobile device. If your old device does not have a USB-C input, try to transfer your data wirelessly
  4. Connect the USB-C cable to your new Samsung device before initiating the data.
