Run diagnostics on your Samsung washer or dryer
Your Samsung washing machine and dryer has a feature called Smart Install that will run a few quick diagnostics on your washing machine or dryer if you are experiencing any issues. The appliance will perform a series of tests that we've outlined here and, if there is a problem, will provide additional information.
Run diagnostics on a front load washer
Important: The purpose of Smart Install is to check for an error code. If the washer is already displaying an error code, do not perform Smart Install.
- To perform Smart Install:
1. Make sure the washer is empty and turn the washer on.
2. Set the washer to Delay End for 17 hours.
Important: If the washer has been connected to SmartThings, the time will display as a start time instead of a number of hours. Example: if it is currently 3 p.m. set the delay end 17 hours ahead to 8 a.m.
3. Press and hold Start until AS appears on the display.
4. Press Start again.
The test will then go through each of these steps:
Door lock check: This first check occurs in under a second. During this check, 1 appears on the display. The door lock will make a sound, and if this test fails, the DC error will appear.
Bleach valve check: This check takes under 30 seconds. During this check, 3 appears on the display. Water will flow into the washer and if this test fails, the 4C error will appear.
Cold valve check: This check takes under 20 seconds. During this check, Co appears on the display. Water will flow into the washer, and if this test fails, the 4C error will appear.
Hot valve check: This check takes 30 seconds. During this check, Ho appears on the display. Water will flow into the washer, and if this test fails, the 4C error will appear.
Spin check (agitation): This check takes under 30 seconds. During this check, 6 appears on the display. The tub will rotate for 5 seconds in one direction, then 5 seconds in the other, back and forth sloshing the water inside.
Drain check: This check takes 30 seconds. During this check, 7 appears on the display. Water will drain from the washer, and if this test fails, the 5C error will appear.
Spin check (high speed): This check takes over 1 minute. During this check, first 8 appears on the display. Then, the RPM that the tub is spinning will display. After reaching max speed, 8 will display again. The tub will begin to spin until reaching its max speed, then slow down and stop. If this test fails, the 3C error will appear.
Door unlock check: This last check occurs in under a second. During this check, 10 appears on the display but it is so quick that you may miss it. The door lock will thud as the door unlocks.
Completion music: Sweet tune by Franz Schubert will play for 23 seconds. During this music, OK will appear on the display.
After the test is completed, if an error is displayed, check out our error code article to troubleshoot any errors that occur.

Run diagnostics on a dryer
Important: The purpose of Smart Install is to check for an error code. If the dryer is already displaying an error code, do not perform Smart Install.
To perform Smart Install:
1. Make sure the dryer is empty and turn it on.
2. If your dryer has buttons, press and hold Time Up and Temp until AS appears on the display. If you have a Smart Control dryer, press and hold Option and Temp until AS appears on the display.
3. Open the door.
4. Touch the moisture bar sensors (the display should change from 0 to 1 when touched).
5. Shut the door and press Start.
Smart Install will start spinning the drum. The display will spin as this is happening.
The display will show OT once complete, or show HC or HC1 if the vent is blocked. If the vent does show as blocked, we recommend that you run a vent blockage test.
After performing Smart Install, troubleshoot any error codes that may appear. Or, if OT appeared, then your dryer has been given a clean bill of health.
