Samsung previews smart living experience at “The Future of Us”

Dec 24. 2015

Themed “The Future, Today”, Samsung showcases latest Internet of Things (IoT) technologies for public to experience a connected smart home environment and its mobile payment technology, Samsung Pay

Singapore – 23 December 2016 – Samsung Electronics Singapore launched its Internet of Things (IoT) showcase, “The Future, Today”, over the weekend, displaying its range of latest technologies that enable smart home living and smart retail solutions. This showcase is being held as part of “The Future of Us” exhibition at Gardens by the Bay, the capstone SG50 event that aims to offer a glimpse into possibilities of how Singaporeans can live, work and play in the future.

“Samsung is excited to bring the smart living experience to Singapore and showcase how our latest technologies can help steer the nation towards infinite possibilities,” said Andy Sim, Vice President and Head of Enterprise, Samsung Electronics Singapore. “We have been working closely with the government agencies like MND, MAS, IDA, LTA and local SMEs to bring this unique experience to Singapore in support of “The Future of Us” Exhibition. We look forward to being a key enabler as Singapore moves towards becoming a Smart Nation.”

At Samsung’s showcase, members of the public are treated to a guided journey through Smart Home and Smart Retail environments.

At the Smart Home section, the public can experience and participate in real life scenarios of how Samsung’s home intelligence system easily monitors, controls and secures the home from anywhere. These scenarios include realistic daily routines such as showcasing how a simple “good morning” can trigger speakers to be turned on to play your favourite music as part of one’s morning routine.

At the Smart Retail section, the public can be among the first in Singapore to experience Samsung’s newest mobile payment service, Samsung Pay. To make a payment on Samsung Pay, users can simply swipe up, scan their fingerprint and pay.

The public can also preview the Samsung Mirror Display, a leading example of how future homes could look like. The Samsung Mirror Display combines the use of a traditional mirror with digital information display. Digital information such as PSI readings, weather information, and bus arrival timings are displayed sleekly on the LCD display. The Samsung Mirror Display also offers a glimpse of how businesses such as hairdressing and hospitality can be transformed by smart technology – a hair salon or a hotel room could be fitted with Samsung Mirror Display that projects information customised to individual consumer’s needs.

Samsung’s smart home experience is powered by SmartThings, the leading open platform for IoT that offers users the most convenient and customisable experience on the market. The SmartThings platform seamlessly connects Samsung’s ecosystem of smart devices and appliances, and is also compatible with more than 200 third party devices.

The opening weekend of Samsung’s showcase at “The Future of Us” exhibition saw a crowd of more than 1,000 experience firsthand Samsung’s smart home and smart retail solutions.

Members of public can visit “The Future, Today” showcase at Gardens by the Bay from now until 8 March 2016, 9.00am to 9.00pm daily, inclusive of public holidays, free of charge.
