Slow internet or connection issues on a Samsung Chromebook

A lagging internet connection or other connection issues on your Chromebook can be caused by a few things, such as your network speed or privacy settings. You can check these as well as other settings and options to get your internet connection working again.

  1. Check your network connection speed.

You can check your network speed by running a speed test. For an accurate reading, make sure you do not have any devices connected to your Chromebook or your network.

You can use a connectivity extension tool as well.

  2. Turn off Google Drive sync.

You can disable Google Drive from running in the background. Open Google Drive and then select the Settings icon at the top right. Select Settings, and then uncheck the box next to Offline to prevent syncing.Check box highlighted next to Offline on a Samsung Chromebook

  3. Change your Domain Name Servers (DNS).

Your service provider probably set up your DNS, but you can change it to Google’s DNS instead. Select the Status tray, and then select the name of your Wi-Fi connection. Select your Wi-Fi network again, and then select Network. Choose Custom name servers to change the DNS.

  4. Check Task Manager.

You can use your Chromebook’s Task Manager to find out which apps or programs are taking up too much memory and slowing down your device. Select the Search and Esc keys simultaneously to launch Task Manager. Select the program you want to close, and then select End process.

  5. Close your opened tabs.

If you usually leave a lot of tabs open in Chrome, you can try closing the ones you aren’t currently using. This can speed up your device’s performance, which in turn may speed up your internet connection.

You can also try using an ad blocker extension to prevent ads on your opened tabs.

  6. Perform a factory reset.

A factory reset on your Chromebook, or a Powerwash, will restore the device to its default settings. Make sure to back up your data before performing a Powerwash.

  7. Request service.

If none of the previous steps solved your slow internet or connection issues, then service is required. Please contact our Support Center to request service.
