Samsung dryer has blinking lights

Instead of error codes, some Samsung dryers use blinking lights to let you know when there is a problem. Use this guide to figure out what the different blinking lights mean.

If your dryer model is displaying an error code on a digital display instead, see our other guide for specific troubleshooting.

Extra Low and 20 min lights are blinking

Frequency errors

Either of these codes means that there is an invalid power source frequency. To fix this, try restarting the cycle.

If the error code remains, visit the Support Center to request service.

Low light is blinking

Jammed button error

This appears if a button on the panel is detected as stuck or continuously pressed.

If you get this error, power off the dryer, and then individually touch and release every button on the panel, working back and forth to reach all edges of each button.

If any of the buttons are damaged, or the code returns after powering on the dryer, visit our Support Center to request service.

Medium is blinking

Communication error

This means the dryer's internal components cannot communicate with each other. Shut off the dryer for 60 seconds, and then turn it back on again.

If the error reappears, visit our Support Center to request service.

High light or 40 min light is blinking

Door-related errors

Either of these lights blinking means there's an issue with the door, its latch, or the sensors that detect whether they are secured correctly.

Check that the latch is securely fixed, laundry or other items are not caught in the door, and the door is closed and secured correctly.

If the code cannot be corrected or there is damage to the door or latch, visit our Support Center to request service.

60 min is blinking or Extra Low light is blinking

Heating error

When either of these lights are blinking, this means that the dryer is getting too hot.

The most common cause is a clogged lint screen or vent system trapping heat in the dryer. Clean the lint screen, vent system, or both to correct the error.

If the error continues after cleaning the lint screen and the exhaust vent, visit our Support Center to request service.

80 min is blinking

Voltage error

This appears when something is abnormal with the voltage being supplied to the dryer.

  • If you get this error, check that the dryer is on its own circuit and not using an extension cord.
  • If it's an electric dryer, confirm the power cord has been installed properly and the correct voltage is being supplied.
  • If you take a model out of the country it was sold for, you may get this error, as power grids and their regulations vary between countries.

If the error continues, visit our Support Center to request service.

Any other lights are blinking

If the only issue you have with your dryer is that lights are blinking, then your dryer is operating normally, and no action is needed.

Blinking lights do not always mean an error code. On some models, the current status of the cycle (like Drying) will blink. Many models also have the lint filter reminder icon blink to get your attention. Before assuming that blinking lights mean an issue with the dryer, check to see if the dryer is experiencing any other issues or symptoms of any kind. If it isn't, and the combination of lights blinking isn't listed in this article, then there is no issue. Just let the lights blink.

If the dryer is experiencing an additional issue that's more than just blinking lights, search our support content for an article that addresses that other issue, so you can troubleshoot it directly, and ignore the blinking lights. (Keep in mind that if you search for "blinking lights" you'll just come right back to this article. Describe the other symptoms the dryer is having in your search instead, like "dryer stops mid cycle" or "dryer does not heat.")
