Reset Ice Maker: Back of freezer door

Ice maker in freezer door

Resetting your ice maker isn't something you'll typically need to do very often. In fact, the only time you should ever reset the ice maker on the back of your freezer's door is when you're not getting any ice, and even then, it's the last resort, after other troubleshooting steps which are more likely to resolve your issue. But if you want to check if your ice maker is working, it comes with a test button to check its function.

  1. Remove the ice bucket.

  2. Do not press Test repeatedly after the ice tray is filled with ice or water. The water may overflow or the ice may jam.

  3. Test the ice maker.

Once the ice bucket has been removed, locate the Test button at the left side of the bottom of the ice maker. Press and hold the Test (A) button until you hear a chime.

    • If you don't hear a chime, but you can see movement from the ice maker, then the ice maker was reset.
    • If you don't hear a chime and there is no movement from the ice maker, unplug the fridge or turn it off at the circuit breaker for 2 minutes. Then, power it back up and try again.
  4. If the ice bucket is not in place correctly once the door is closed, the refrigerator display will indicate this with a flashing Ice Off icon, or in another way, depending on your model.

  5. Reattach ice bucket.

  6. Continue troubleshooting.

Your ice maker has been reset. If it chimes one time, your ice maker has passed the test. If the ice maker chimes multiple times, visit our Support Center to request service.

Resetting the ice maker is just one step of troubleshooting ice maker problems. Please see our guide for Ice maker is not working for other ice maker issues.
