The picture color is wrong or too dark on Samsung monitor

Your screen’s colors may need to be adjusted if you are struggling to see clearly, or if the colors look distorted or too dark. Change the Brightness, Contrast, and Color settings to find the right balance on your monitor. You can also run a diagnostic test on your monitor.
-
Turn off settings which prevent adjusting the brightness, contrast, and color tone.
Look for any settings on your monitor which automatically set and adjust your brightness, contrast, and color tone. For instance, on our new Smart Monitor line, the Ambient Light Detection (under General > Eco solution) or the Adaptive Picture (under Picture > Eye Care) will take control of the image and adjust these settings dynamically in certain situations.
If you'd rather set the brightness, contrast, and tone yourself (see steps 2 and 3), you will need to disable any settings like these which override (or prevent adjustment of) the settings you want.
If your brightness, contrast, and tone settings are disabled and can't be adjusted, then you definitely have another setting enabled which is blocking the adjustment. Look for any settings which mention words such as:
- Adaptive
- Dynamic
- Eco
- Eye care
- Eye saver
For a full review of what options your monitor has specific to your model, see your user manual.
-
Adjust the Brightness and Contrast.
The Brightness setting will lighten or darken the entire picture. Contrast, however, increases the difference between light and dark. With increased Contrast, the lights get lighter and the darks get darker.
You will probably need to make multiple tweaks to both Brightness and Contrast in order to get the picture how you want it. Use these guidelines:
- If all your lights tend to blur together and all your darks tend to blur together, lower your Contrast.
- If you have a hard time telling light from dark, increase your Contrast.
- If all your lights tend to blur together, and your darks don't blur together but are too light, then reduce your Brightness.
- And finally, if all your darks tend to blur together, and your lights don't blur together but they are too dark, then increase your Brightness.
-
Adjust the Color settings.
If the screen’s color appears inconsistent, distorted, or shadowed, or if white does not appear to be white, you can change the Color and Gamma settings to intensify or soften the colors. Unlike Brightness and Contrast, the Gamma setting will alter the pixel measurement if it's too difficult to see light or dark colors.
Open the On-Screen Display menu to access the Color and Gamma settings, and use these guidelines:
- If the overall saturation level is too intense, choose the options for Red, Green, or Blue to adjust the individual level for each color.
- Color Tone includes different color temperatures that may be easier on your eyes.
- Choose Cool to make whites appear blue.
- Choose Normal (or Standard) to keep whites as they are.
- Choose Warm to make whites appear reddish or pinkish.
- Choose Custom to alter the settings based on your preferences.
- Gamma measurements correspond to the screen’s illumination. The proper Gamma setting will create a richer image.
- If it's hard to see bright colors, you should decrease the Gamma.
- If it's hard to see dark colors, you should increase the Gamma.
-
Run a Self Diagnosis on the monitor.
A diagnostic test will determine if the monitor is functioning properly. To perform one, open the Menu on your monitor, and then select System. Select Self Diagnosis. You will be prompted to test your screen.
Select OK, and view the screen. Avoid turning off the monitor or changing the input source while the test is running. You can select either No, Yes, or Show Again when asked to view the test screen again.
- Select No if there were no issues on the screen during the test.
- Select Yes if you noticed issues during the test. You'll be directed to contact a Samsung Call Center or Samsung Support for further help. Make sure you have your monitor’s model code, software version, and serial number ready when calling.
- Select Show Again if you’d like to check the test screen a second time.
