If you think your hood is a bit loud, it may be normal or indicate a problem depending on the type of noise it's making. The action required could be service, reinstallation, or simply turning the range hood to a lower setting.
Note: Range hood loudness is measured in sones. As a comparison, 1 sone is about the loudness of a quiet running refrigerator, 4 is a normal conversation, and 8 is light traffic. Samsung range hoods are over 10 sones.
If your range hood is making a normal type of noise, but it's just very loud, service is not required. In general, you should hear more airflow noise than you hear motor noise, but this can vary depending on the kind of duct you have, how long it is, and how many bends.
Noises which may need further investigation include rattling or vibration, which could indicate that installation was not performed correctly and something is loose.
And if you hear any kind of grinding, scraping, or any other abnormal noise, visit our Support Center to request service.
