SD Card errors with the Gear 360

Gear 360 experiencing problems with SD card

A microSD card is needed to store pictures and videos on your Gear 360. However, sometimes a microSD can become corrupted or overloaded. Usually, using a new card or reformatting your card can help solve the problem. Keep reading for more information.

If you need to format the memory card, make sure to back up important data stored in the memory card. The manufacturer's warranty does not cover loss of data.

  1. Verify the SD card is compatible.

The Gear 360 supports microSD cards up to 256GB. Some memory cards may not be fully compatible with the Gear 360. Using an incompatible card may damage the Gear 360 or the memory card, or corrupt the data stored in it.

  2. Turn off the Gear 360.

To prevent damage to the memory card (as well as data loss or corruption), press and hold the Power button to turn off the Gear 360.

If you insert or remove a memory card while the Samsung Gear 360 is turned on, the power will turn off.

  3. Be careful not to damage your fingernails when you remove the memory card tray.

  4. Remove the SD card.

If needed, first open the SD card cover (only on the 2016 version). To remove the SD card, gently pull out the memory card tray from its slot. Next, carefully remove the SD card.

  5. Reinsert the SD card or  install a new one.

To reinsert or install a new SD card, gently press the SD card into the memory card tray. Align the memory card's gold-colored pins with the device's contacts. Push until the card locks in place.

    • If you use a slow writing memory card, the recording of your video can be interrupted. The card may not be able to process data at the rate the video is being shot. If this occurs, replace the card with a faster memory card or access the Gear 360 App settings to reduce the video size.
    • Frequent writing and erasing of data shortens the lifespan of memory cards.
    • If you power the camera on without reinserting the SD card, "Check SD Card" will be displayed on the camera status screen.
  6. Format the SD card on the Gear 360 or on your phone.

A memory card formatted on a computer may not be compatible with the Gear 360. You can reformat the memory card on the Gear 360 itself or on the connected phone.

    • On the Gear 360: With the camera powered on, press the Menu button until "Settings" appears on the camera status screen, and then select OK. Press Menu until "Format" appears, and then select OK. Press Menu until "Yes" appears, and the select OK. A confirmation message will appear on the camera status screen when the formatting is finished.
    • In the Samsung Gear 360 app: The camera must be powered on and connected to the phone first. Then, open the Samsung Gear 360 app, tap More, and then tap Settings. Swipe to and tap Reset and format. Tap Format Gear 360 SD card, and then tap FORMAT. A confirmation message will appear on the camera status screen when the formatting is finished.
