No image or blank screen on your Samsung Chromebook
A blank screen on your Chromebook can be caused by a few issues, but fortunately there's usually an easy fix, such as restarting the Chromebook or performing a reset.
-
Check the AC adapter.
Plug in the AC adapter while the Chromebook is still powered on. You will see the green LED when the battery has charged completely.
Make sure the AC adapter is fully plugged into the charging port on the Chromebook.
-
Restart the Chromebook.
Press and hold the Power key until the power light shuts off, and then press the Power key again to turn it back on.
-
Attempt a system recovery.
If the operating system is corrupted and unable to use the display, a system recovery can still be attempted in order to restore function. You'll know right away if it's going to work because the display will work during the system recovery. If it remains blank and the system recovery does not appear, then request service (see next step).
To try to enter recovery mode, first disconnect any accessories like a mouse or external hard drive, and then while holding Esc and Refresh, press the Power key. Let go of the Power key first, and then when a message shows on the screen, let go of the other keys. If the display remains blank and nothing appears, then request service (see next step).
Earlier versions of the Chromebook use a different method. For these, remove the power adapter, and then use a paper clip to press the recovery button located on the bottom side of the Chromebook. Continue to hold the paper clip while reconnecting the power adapter. Then, press the Power key.
If the display does work during recovery mode, you will need to insert the Recovery USB or SD card when prompted and follow any on-screen instructions to complete the recovery.

Request service.
If the issue persists after performing all the steps, including the attempt at recovery, visit our Support Center to request service.
Chromebooks used at work or school cannot be reset. If your display works during recovery mode, contact your administrator to wipe the data and re-enroll the device on your work or school network.
