The microwave sparks or arcs

Samsung microwave with a ball of foil inside

The term "arcing" refers to sparks inside the microwave oven. These sparks are caused when microwaves react to gold paint on dishes, twist ties and other metallic materials, like aluminum foil. Usually, removing these kind of objects will fix the problem.

  1. Remove any items with metals.

Remove any metallic utensils, metal cookware, metal ties, or plates with gold decorations from inside the microwave.

  2. Make sure the glass tray is installed.

The microwave needs the glass turntable to be in place while it is being used. Operating the microwave without the turntable can cause damage.

  3. Check the microwave is not being operated when it is empty.

This could cause damage to the microwave's interior.

  4. Request service.

If the sparks or arcing still occurs, visit the Support Center to request service.
