Subwoofer sound is low

Samsung soundbar's subwoofer is low

The subwoofer is responsible for low frequency sounds, like the rumbles of an explosion in an action movie or the bass guitar and drum in your favorite music. It adds rich bass tones and deepens the sound quality you hear. However, since the subwoofer only plays low tones, it will stay silent when low frequency sounds are not in use.

Service is not required for this issue. However, if your  subwoofer will not turn on, please see our guide.

  1. Check for a firmware update.

You can check the current firmware version using the soundbar's remote. First, make sure the subwoofer is turned off. Then, press the Sound Control button once (it looks like a gear), and then press and hold the same button for 20-30 seconds. Check the numbers that follow the letter "B" on the soundbar. For example, the firmware version may be "B 1008.0."

You can perform an update using the SmartThings app, or by downloading the file if your soundbar has a USB port.

  2. In order for low frequencies to sound rich and full, the subwoofer will not play high-pitched sounds like speech, since those sounds already come from your other speakers. You will hear only deep bass and low frequency vibrations.

  3. Play loud audio and feel your subwoofer.

Since only low frequency sounds will come from a subwoofer, you will need to make sure you're playing media which contains low frequency sounds, like explosions or deep bass. These sounds are so low frequency that you will be able to feel the vibration from them as your subwoofer outputs them.

  4. Increase the bass or woofer level.

If you'd like louder (or softer) bass from your subwoofer, you can adjust the level. The method to do this varies depending on your model. Most soundbar remotes have a button labeled WOOFER that can adjust the level from -6 to +6 (when compared with the volume of the rest of the sound from the other speakers). If your remote does not have this button, see your user manual for instructions.

  5. Move the subwoofer closer to the soundbar.

Physically move the subwoofer closer to the soundbar. Ensure there are no obstacles that could cause interference, such as furniture, Wi-Fi routers, Bluetooth devices, and microwaves.

  6. Unplug the subwoofer and then plug it back in.

Unplug the power cord on your subwoofer and then wait 30 seconds. Then, plug in the subwoofer.
