Samsung dryer is leaking

How does a dryer leak water? Where does the moisture even come from? If you're getting a leak, check for condensation, inspect where the leak is coming from, and make sure your exhaust vent meets specifications.

If your dryer was recently installed, you should notify the installer that the dryer is leaking. You can also refer to your model's user manual for installation details about connecting the water line.

  1. Check the water supply hose (steam-dry models only).

    • If the dryer has recently been running a steam-dry cycle, some moisture will be left over in the drum. This is normal.
    • If water is dripping from the water supply hose, inspect for cracks or holes, and verify that both ends of the hose contain undamaged gaskets or O rings. If these are damaged, they will need to be replaced.
    • If water is leaking into the drum from the steam system even when the steam system is not in use, visit our Support Center to request service.
  2. Confirm your exhaust vent meets requirements.

The exhaust vent has certain requirements that are covered in your user manual. These requirements are to ensure that moisture leaves the dryer and cannot enter through the exhaust vent from outside (especially on hot humid days).

  3. Clean your exhaust vent regularly.

It's important to keep the exhaust vent clean. It's recommended to get it cleaned once or twice a year.

If you already have moisture in your dryer:

    1. Detach the exhaust vent from the dryer.
    2. Wipe off as much moisture as possible from the dryer and vent.
    3. With the vent disconnected, run a timed-dry heating cycle to clear out the remaining moisture.
    4. Before reconnecting the vent, clean it out to prevent the issue from happening again.
  4. Keep your dryer in a dry environment.

The previous steps help keep your dryer from getting water inside it, but if you're seeing water collect on the outside, it's likely just condensation.

If your dryer is in a humid environment, moisture may collect on its metal parts when it is not in use, like the drum (if the door is left cracked) or the exhaust vent.

To assist with this, reduce the humidity of the environment, or occasionally wipe down your dryer with towels to keep it dry.

  5. Except for the situation described in Step 1, service is not required.
