Sound is not playing from Samsung phone's top speaker

The AKG stereo speakers on select Galaxy phones add a new dimension of sound to your music and entertainment. There are some circumstances, however, where sound will only be emitted from the bottom speaker.
Ringtones and alarms
These will only be played through both speakers if the device detects it has been placed on a flat surface.
System sounds and notifications
Volume on the upper speaker starts off low and gradually increases as sound is played. System sounds and notifications are usually very short, so the volume doesn't have the chance to increase.
Speakerphone calls
To prevent auditory shock and hearing damage, the upper speaker is disabled for speakerphone calls if the Proximity sensor is blocked. If you are not holding the phone to your ear, remove anything that may be blocking the sensors at the top of the phone.
