Control buttons on Samsung dryer that don't work

If your dryer won't start, the buttons won't work, or the control knob won't select a different cycle, you probably have Child Lock turned on. If your Child Lock icon is lit, this confirms it. Turning Child Lock off will take care of your problem.

Depending on the selected cycle, certain temperatures, dry levels, or other settings on the dryer may be disabled. The available settings for each cycle will vary between models. Your user manual has a chart in the appendix showing the options available for each cycle.

  1. Press Power on the dryer.

If the dryer does not turn on, see our guide for dryer will not turn on.

  2. Verify that Child Lock is turned off.

If the display panel is not responding at all:

    • Enable and then disable Child Lock.
    • If the buttons still do not respond after disabling Child Lock, power cycle the dryer by unplugging it or cutting off power at the circuit breaker for 60 seconds.

Child Lock is enabled and disabled by holding down two buttons on the control panel. The exact buttons will vary between models, but two common combinations are Temp and Time, or Dry Level and Temp. Your control panel will indicate which two buttons to use.

  3. Request service.

If the panel still does not respond and the dryer is not in Child Lock, visit the Support Center to request service.
