Touchpad is not working on Samsung PC

If your Samsung PC's touchpad is not working, it may simply be locked or disabled. There is an easy way to unlock it and get the touchpad working again. If that doesn't do the trick, resetting the driver or installing updates could help. If all else fails, try a factory reset.

Touchpad is not working on Samsung PC

1

Clean the keyboard.

If the touchpad is dirty, it may not function properly or at all. Use a soft, non-abrasive, lint-free cloth to clean the touchpad. When using this dry cleaning method, you do not need to unplug or detach anything on a Galaxy Book.

To deep clean using a cloth or a can of compressed air, first shut down the PC and disconnect all cables and power sources. If your PC has a detachable keyboard, remove it before cleaning. Then wipe down the touchpad and keyboard with a damp microfiber cloth, or use compressed air to clean the edges of the touchpad. Do not directly apply liquid cleaners to the device and do not use household cleaners.

Note
If the screen gets wet, make sure it is completely dry before using it.
2

Unlock the touchpad.

Press and hold the Fn key and the F5 key simultaneously to unlock or lock the touchpad.
Important
If your touchpad still isn't working, the following troubleshooting steps will be easier if you have a touchscreen or external mouse to use. It is possible to navigate completely by keyboard, however.
3

Check your touchpad settings.

In Windows, go to Settings, and select Devices or Bluetooth & devices. Select Touchpad, and review the settings there. For instance, if you have an external mouse connected, your touchpad might be disabled while the mouse is connected.

You can also try resetting the touchpad. The steps will be a little different depending if you have Windows 10 or 11:

  • Windows 10: Scroll down to the bottom of the page, and select Reset.
  • Windows 11: Select Touchpad again to open its dropdown menu, and then select Reset next to Reset touchpad settings and gestures to defaults. The Reset option may be grayed out if you have never changed your touchpad's settings.

If your model does not have a reset button, you can reset the driver by going to Device Manager, uninstalling the touchpad, and then scanning for new hardware in order to reinstall it.

4

Get updates.

Check Windows Updates and Samsung Update for any updates that may be for or affect your touchpad, and install them. It is a good idea to get any other device driver or critical updates at this time, as well. Device driver updates, such as those for your touchpad, may be listed under optional updates.
5

Perform a factory reset.

If you are still having trouble, reset your PC before setting up service to confirm that the issue is not with any software you have installed. If you have Samsung Recovery installed, that is the preferred method to reset your computer.

Otherwise, you can type "Reset" into the PC's search bar, select Reset this PC, and then follow the on-screen instructions.

Remember that resetting a PC will completely delete your files, settings, and so on. Make sure to back up your data before performing a reset.
