Samsung oven temperature issues

Whether your oven is too hot, not hot enough, takes too long to get hot, or doesn't get hot at all, it can cause a lot of issues. For example, food may not cook well, or it may take a long time for the oven to reach the set temperature. Luckily, there are some simple things you can do to try to fix it. For instance, many heating issues are related to the voltage. You'll also want to make sure you're not opening the door too often or leaving it open for too long. We'll let you know the steps you should take before requesting service.

Samsung oven temperature issues

What temperature issue is your oven experiencing?

Oven does not cook well
Oven does not heat
Oven takes a long time to reach set temperature
Oven temperature does not match thermometer
Oven does not cook well
Note
Convection cooking is more thorough than regular cooking. Since most recipes are made for regular cooking, Auto Conversion (enabled by default) will reduce any entered temperature by 25°F when using convection cooking.
1
Use the recommended rack position and cookware.
Your user manual contains recommendations for which oven rack position to use, as well as cookware recommendations. For instance, dark pans absorb and retain more heat than light pans and are more likely to burn around the edges.
2
Ensure proper airflow.

Proper airflow will allow heat to reach all sides of the food. There should be at least 1 inch of space around each item in the oven. This is especially true for convection cooking.

Additionally, we don't recommend using aluminum foil in your oven because it can block airflow, melt, or even damage your oven.
3
Don't open the door.
Every time you open the door, hot air will leave the oven. This causes the oven to reheat each time.
4
Calibrate the oven.

Ranges may need to have their temperature calibrated after a while, or when you purchase a new one. You can use the calibration function to adjust the temperature up to 35°F (either higher or lower). First, choose a value to calibrate to, and then cook a trusted recipe and check the results. Repeat with different calibration values until you have the results you want.

  • For ovens with a Settings or Options menu, Thermostat Adjustment can be found in the menu.

  • For other models, press and hold two buttons (for example, Broil and 1) until the display shows ADJ 0, and then use other buttons to adjust the setting.

  • Check the exact steps for your model in your user manual.
Important
Calibration can be a positive or negative adjustment. If there is a - shown when choosing the amount to adjust by, then it is a negative adjustment and will result in the oven being cooler than previously desired. If a - is not shown, then it is a positive adjustment and the oven will be hotter than previously desired. Be sure to adjust in the desired direction.

Oven does not heat
Note
Once you set the temperature and press Start, the oven will display 150°F and begin to preheat. The displayed temperature will increase when the oven becomes hotter than 150°F, and will continue until the oven reaches the desired temperature. If the display seems to be stuck at 150°F for much longer than it should, it is because the oven is not heating. Perform the following steps if this occurs.
1
Make sure the door hasn't been left open.
The oven will shut off if the door is left open for too long. This is a safety precaution.
2
Confirm you're not in Demo mode.

If you're in Demo mode, the display will show tESt (or tE 5t). Some models show a d on the display, or a D icon, and wall ovens with an LCD screen will show DEMO at the top of the display. When in Demo mode, the oven and cooktop will not heat (although a gas cooktop will still ignite).

Instructions to disable Demo mode are available in the user manual. If your manual is missing the instructions, contact us with your model number.

3
Check the gas pressure (for gas ranges).

The oven will ignite and turn off multiple times while cooking to maintain the temperature.

If the oven does not ignite at all, light one of the burners on the cooktop and try heating the oven again.

  • If the burners will not light, check if the gas is turned on for your home. Contact your gas company for further assistance if needed.

  • If the oven heats up when a burner is lit, but not when the cooktop is off, then the gas pressure is too high. If the range was recently installed, contact a professional installer or your gas company for assistance.

  • If the oven does not heat up when the cooktop is on, visit our Support Center to request service.
4
Turn off the circuit breaker for 30 seconds, and then turn it back on.
Tripped circuits may not be immediately noticeable as they sometimes look like they are untripped, so cycle them off and back on again to be certain.

Oven takes a long time to reach set temperature
1
Empty the oven, and leave one rack inside.
With the oven empty and at room temperature, put a single rack in the oven (with nothing on it).
2
Set the oven to preheat to 350°F and keep track of how long it takes to beep.
This should occur within 20 minutes. Do not open the door during this time.
Important
Do not use a thermometer to measure heat, even if the thermometer claims it's for use in an oven. Only measure the time it takes for the oven to beep to indicate that preheating is complete.
3
Check the voltage supplied (electric ranges only).
Electric ranges require 240V. Although the range may operate at a lower voltage, this will increase the time it takes to preheat. If the voltage is below 240V, then service is not required for this issue.
4
Request service.
If the oven takes longer than 20 minutes to beep when set to 350°F and only one oven rack is in it, visit our Support Center to request service.
Oven temperature does not match thermometer
There are two main reasons why thermometers do not accurately reflect the temperature in an oven, even if they are labeled as oven thermometers:
1
The thermometer is made from materials that affect its speed and accuracy in determining the temperature.

If you were to take thermometers from several different manufacturers and put them all in the same oven at the same time, their readings may eventually get to the same temperature, but some thermometers would get there quickly and some would take a while. This depends on what materials the thermometer is made from or what type of mechanism they measure with.

This doesn't mean the oven took that long to achieve the temperature; the thermometer took that long to measure it. And if the temperature in the oven changes quickly, the thermometer typically cannot keep up with the changes. These aren't highly accurate, calibrated devices, and should not be relied on for accurate measurements.

If you really want to measure the temperature in your oven and get an exact number, you will need to use a thermocouple to obtain an accurate measurement. However, we recommend letting the results of your cooking be your guide. Return and select our article for Oven does not cook well for more information and troubleshooting steps.

Thermometer

Time to reach 350°F / Difference time

9 min 06 sec / ---

11 min 22 sec / +2 min 16 sec

9 min 48 sec / +42 sec

2
The oven cycles above and below the set temperature, confusing the thermometers.

Ovens cycle on and off while they are being used, causing temperature fluctuations. For example, when a domestic oven is set to 350°F while cooking, it usually ranges between 330-370°F in order to maintain the average of the set temperature of 350°F.

This is a completely normal operation of the oven. The set temperature is an average of temperatures in the cycles. If the oven did not cycle off, then the temperature would continue to rise, which could overheat the oven or burn the food. This cycle method also helps save energy.

As mentioned in the previous reason, thermometers are typically slow to adjust to changes. It can be very hard, if not impossible, for a thermometer to give an accurate, consistent reading in this situation.
