In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Samsung Electronics America Inc. has announced a voluntary recall for certain slide-in electric range models with front-mounted knobs. The remedy for this recall is free knob locks or covers for specific models sold in the U.S. between 2013 and 2024.

This announcement addresses potential activation of range knobs through accidental contact by people or pets, posing a fire hazard if flammable objects are left on top of the range.

Free Knob Locks or Covers

Samsung is providing slide-in electric range customers with a set of free knob locks or covers, depending on their model, to prevent accidental activations from occurring. Customers may continue to use their slide-in electric ranges while awaiting their set of free knob locks or covers.

Samsung also recommends consumers follow these range-safety precautions, regardless of range type or manufacturer:

  • While not actively cooking, never place, leave, or store anything on the top of your range.
  • Keep children and pets away from range knobs.
  • Be sure to check your range knobs to ensure they are turned off after cooking.

Q6. What information do I need to start a request?

To request your free set of knob locks or covers, depending on your model, simply provide your serial number in the “Start Your Request” section above. The range’s serial number can be found on a label located in one of two areas on the range: either by opening the oven door and inspecting the top left corner of the frame – or by opening the bottom drawer of the range and inspecting the left side of the frame.

If the serial number is unreadable on a range's label, you may contact 1-833-775-0120 for assistance, or chat online with one of our agents.

Yes, the set of knob locks or covers is free of charge regardless of warranty status.

SmartThings is an application that conveniently connects, controls, and updates connected devices, including Samsung home appliances. With SmartThings app, consumers can monitor and control their smart devices or appliances right from their mobile phones. Many Samsung ranges with Wi-Fi connectivity can be configured through the Samsung SmartThings app to send mobile notifications instantly when a burner is first activated.

To access SmartThings app, consumers can go to their mobile phone's app store and download the app. Next, sign-in or create a Samsung account to access SmartThings app's features.

Consumers can open the SmartThings app > Sign in > Create Account > Agree Terms and Conditions > Fill in your information [Email, Password, First name, Last name and Date of Birth] > Create Account > OK > Go to Inbox (Sign-in to your Email and find an Email sent by Samsung Account) > Verify account.

Q12. Consumer has Wi-Fi access, but cannot connect their range?

Network requirements vary between devices. Samsung electric ranges requires 2.4GHz Wi-Fi connectivity. If a consumer’s Wi-Fi Access Point has options of 2.4GHz and 5GHz, select 2.4GHz. Additionally, if the Wi-Fi signal is too weak, the range might not connect. Another solution is to relocate the router closer to the range to help improve the signal strength.
