Use Gemini or Google Assistant on your Galaxy phone

Gemini and Google Assistant are available on Galaxy phones to help you out with questions and gathering information across multiple apps. While Google Assistant is a powerful day-to-day virtual voice assistant, Gemini is an AI model that offers enhanced capabilities.

Use Gemini or Google Assistant on your Galaxy phone

Set Google as your default digital assistant app

Google can be set as your default assistant app using the Settings menu.

  1. Navigate to and open Settings, then tap Apps, and then tap Choose default apps.

  2. Tap Digital assistant app, and then tap Digital assistant app again.
  3. Choose Google as your preferred assistant app.
  4. If you’d like to launch Google using the Side button, you may need to change your Side button settings. To do so, navigate back to Settings, then tap Advanced features, and then tap Side button.
  5. Tap Long press, and then tap Digital assistant.

  6. Tap the Settings icon next to Digital assistant, and then choose Google.

Use Gemini

Note
Gemini is supported on Galaxy phones running Android 10 or higher. Seamless action across apps with Gemini is only available on Galaxy phones with Android 15 and One UI 7.0 or higher.

Gemini can answer questions or find information by seamlessly accessing multiple apps, such as Google Maps, Calendar, and YouTube, plus third-party apps like Spotify and WhatsApp. Make sure you have signed into both your Samsung and Google accounts before proceeding.

  1. Launch Gemini by pressing and holding the Side button or saying “Hey Google.”
  2. Begin speaking or typing a question you’d like to ask. Tap the results to review them.
  3. To customize your assistant, tap the Live icon (the three vertical lines with a star), select your desired assistant by swiping through the options, and then tap Start.

Use Google Assistant

Note
Google Assistant is supported on Galaxy phones running Android 5.0 or higher. Seamless action across apps is not supported. 

If you would like to switch to Google Assistant, just follow the steps below.

  1. Navigate to and open Settings, then tap Google, and then tap the All services tab.

  2. Tap Search, Assistant & Voice, then tap Google Assistant, and then tap Voice Match.
  3. Tap Digital assistant from Google, and then choose Google Assistant.

  4. Next, launch Google Assistant by pressing and holding the Side button or saying “Hey Google.”
  5. Begin speaking or typing a question you’d like to ask.

Adjust the voice match for Hey Google

Your personal voice match for “Hey Google” can be adjusted using the instructions below.

  1. Navigate to and open Settings, then tap Google, and then tap the All services tab.

  2. Tap Search, Assistant & Voice, then tap Google Assistant, and then tap Voice Match.

  3. Tap the switch next to Hey Google to begin adjusting the voice match.
  4. Review the information, and then tap Agree.
  5. Review the additional information, then tap More, and then tap I agree. Tap Next.

  6. If desired, tap Start saving audio and follow the on-screen instructions. For this example, tap Not now.
  7. You can tap Retrain Voice Match model to adjust the voice match, or Delete Voice Match model to remove the voice match from your phone.
