Change the microphone mode on your Galaxy phone or tablet

Mic mode on your Galaxy device lets you tune the microphone during phone calls for improved clarity. This feature optimizes the frequencies that your phone or tablet transmits over calls while decreasing background sounds, making it ideal for crowded and noisy areas.

Change the microphone mode on your Galaxy phone or tablet

Note
Mic mode is available on select newer Galaxy phones and tablets during regular cellular calls using the Samsung Phone app or the Samsung Contacts app. It is also available when using the speakerphone in Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) apps, like Skype, Zoom, Google Voice, Google Meet, Facebook Messenger, and others, that allow voice calls through a broadband internet connection instead of a cellular line.

Enable Mic mode

The steps below will help you set up Mic mode on your Galaxy phone or tablet. You can select from three microphone options.

  1. Begin a call using your desired app, such as the Phone app or Contacts app. Then, swipe down from the top of the screen using two fingers to open the Quick settings panel, and tap Mic mode at the top.

Note: Mic mode will only be available when using the speakerphone in VoIP apps on the S21 Ultra, S21+, S21, S22 Ultra, S22+, S22, Z Flip3, Z Flip4, Z Flip5, Z Fold3, Z Fold4, Z Fold5, Tab S8 Ultra, Tab S8+, Tab S8, Tab S9 Ultra, Tab S9+, or Tab S9. If Mic mode is not available when using the Phone app, Contacts app, or a VoIP app with the microphone or speakerphone, the feature is not supported on your device.

  3. Tap Done, and continue the call.
  4. To change the microphone option, swipe down from the top of the screen using two fingers again, then tap Mic mode at the top, and then select a new option.
