Use PENUP’s brushes

Different brushes displayed in PENUP

To make your artwork the best it can be, you’ll need the right art supplies.

  1. Make sure you're logged in, and then open a coloring page or blank page in PENUP.
  2. You'll be prompted to select a canvas. Make your selection, and then tap Start drawing.
  3. Tap the brush tools at the top, then select your desired brush, and then adjust its settings. Here are the available brush tools from left to right:
  • Watercolor: It makes clear, smoky brushstrokes; it’s great for coloring the sky or water. You can choose from Stain, Square brush, Splatter, or Dry brush.
  • Oil paint: It’s a standard paintbrush for paintings or arts and crafts. Its strokes are thick and solid. Use this when you want to fill in large areas with a consistent, thick color. You can choose from Blending brush 1, Blending brush 2, Rough on dry, Flat tip brush, Clear, or Watery oil brush.
  • Calligraphy: Traditionally, these brushes were used for writing Chinese or Japanese letters, but now many modern artists use calligraphy brushes. They make thin, accurate strokes. You can choose from Brush pen, Brush pen 2, Smooth brush, Round tip brush, Dry brush, or Large brush.
  • Pencil: Use this to write or color like a real pencil. You can adjust the pencil’s thickness, but the strokes will always be very thin and grainy like an actual pencil. You can choose from HB pencil, 4B pencil, 8B pencil, Charcoal 1, Charcoal 2, or Mechanical pencil.
  • Airbrush: This tool will give you the foggy look of an airbrush or a spray can. It’s perfect for coloring clouds, sheep, or anything fluffy. You can choose from Soft, Spray, Solid, Shadow, Clouds, or Cloud 1.
  • Marker: It’s like using a Sharpie or a marker. Use it for bold, thick lines – it’s great for both coloring and writing. You can choose from Round tip marker, Flat tip, Permanent marker, Pigment marker, Brush tip marker, or Soft tip marker.
  • Crayon: This will give you the appearance and texture of a real crayon. You can choose from Chalk, Crayon, Dry oil pastel, Hard pastel, or Soft pastel.
  • Pen: Use the Pen to glide across your screen when writing or drawing. You can choose from Ballpoint, Dip pen, Dip pen 2, Fine nib fountain pen, Fine nib fountain pen 2, Oblique nib fountain pen, Horizontal flat nib fountain pen, Vertical flat nib fountain pen, or Fine nib pen.
  • Pattern: Add a fun pattern to your artwork. You can choose from Bokeh, Bubbles 1, Bubbles 2, Smiley faces, Hearts, Grass, Maple leaf 1, Gingko leaves, Maple leaf 2, Flower 1, Flower 2, Suns, Starlight, or Sparkle 1.

You can also tap the Settings icon on the far right to edit the brushes.
