Brighten up your Galaxy phone's screen with Extra brightness

Galaxy S23 with image on bright sunny day

On super sunny days, it can be hard to see your phone’s screen even with the brightness turned all the way up… or is it? On newer Galaxy phones, there's a handy feature called Extra brightness that makes the brightness even more vivid! It's ideal for using your phone in environments with strong light.

Note: The Extra brightness feature is only available with select carriers and software versions on the Galaxy Flip5, S22, S23, and S24 series phones.

Enable Extra brightness

Reading a digital book outside on a beautiful day should be fun and relaxing. But if you’re squinting to read the text on your phone’s screen, you can brighten up the display with Extra brightness. Just please be aware that using this feature will drain your battery life faster.

  1. Navigate to Settings, and then tap Display.

  2. Make sure the switch next to Adaptive brightness is turned off.

Note: The Extra brightness feature only appears when Adaptive brightness is disabled.

  3. Once it’s displayed, tap the switch next to Extra brightness to turn it on. Now your screen will glow brighter!

  4. Even with this feature enabled, you can still adjust the brightness from the Display settings page or from the Quick settings panel.

Note: Turning Adaptive brightness back on will automatically disable Extra brightness.
