The Samsung Freestyle isn't just for watching shows
The Samsung Freestyle is great for watching your favorite movies, but did you know you can also use it to display other content? When you aren’t catching up on the latest shows, you can use The Freestyle to project funky backgrounds, colorful effects, and even your own photos with Ambient Mode! Plus, with so many categories to choose from, you’re sure to find the perfect background for hosting a party or just hanging out.
Note: The Ambient Mode categories may vary depending on the device.
Turn on Ambient Mode using The Freestyle
Need an interesting backdrop while you’re studying or working? You can use The Freestyle’s Ambient Mode to set the tone in your bedroom, living room, or wherever!
To access Ambient Mode, press the Home button on The Freestyle’s remote, and then press Left on the directional pad. Press Up to hover over Ambient on the left side of the screen, and then select it. Then, choose from the following categories:
Lighting: Select from stylish and colorful options like Butterfly or Moon Wave, or set the mood for a party with Happy Birthday or Cheers.
Scene: Complement your living space with relaxing backgrounds like Sunset, Mountain, and Moon.
Cinemagraph: Get comfy and cozy with animated backgrounds such as Fireplace, Christmas Light, Aurora, and Winter.
Ambient Screen Options: Set your preferred time for turning off Ambient Mode. Press the Enter button on the remote to cycle through the options.
My Album: Personalize your background with photos from your phone or Samsung Cloud account. Then, select a photo template, such as Board or Monthly Calendar.
Note: To import photos to The Freestyle, you will need to use the SmartThings app. Please see the next section for more details.
Prism: Turn your living room or bedroom into a kaleidoscope with unique patterns like Pink Marble, Blue Marble, Red Cocktail, and Snowflake. For extra fun, put the Lens Cap on your Freestyle to enjoy some color changing mood lighting.
You can also select View Help at the top of the screen for more information about Ambient Mode. To exit Ambient Mode, press Left on the remote’s directional pad, and then select Media.
Turn on Ambient Mode using the SmartThings app
You can also use The Freestyle’s Ambient Mode from the SmartThings app on your phone! Just make sure The Freestyle has been added to the app.
Navigate to and open the SmartThings app, and then tap the Devices tab. Tap the Home icon, and then select the location with The Freestyle. Swipe left or right to locate the device, and then select it.
Tap Ambient Mode, and then review the on-screen information to begin.
Select your preferred category at the top of the screen. Then, swipe up to scroll through the different options, and tap View on Projector to enable Ambient Mode.
To import your own photos, tap My Album, and then tap Select photos. Allow the necessary permissions, and then select Gallery or Samsung Cloud at the top.
Select your photo or photos, and then tap View on Projector.
Note: If you select more than one photo, they will be displayed randomly.
You can set Ambient Mode to turn off when your phone is away from The Freestyle as well. Navigate back to the Ambient Mode screen, and then tap More options (the three vertical dots).
Tap Ambient settings under Ambient Mode, and then tap the switch next to Ambient auto On/Off.
