A Travel Photographer & His Galaxy Camera
Alaska, Iceland to Capri—Samsung Emerging Photographer Program member Austin Jensen is always off traveling. Destination after destination, he captures breathtaking vantage points, stunning symmetry, and captivating horizons. We spoke to Austin about sharing his adventures on Instagram and personal mobile photography tips.
A little planning goes a long way
“Shooting photos lets me experience more of the locations that I visit,” said Austin. He maps out all his destinations, figuring the more he knows about a spot beforehand, the more he can take in while there. Based on his best Instagram photos, he’s right. Preliminary research helps him keep an open eye for the unexpected.
Keep your composition consistent
Whether he’s at a steep vantage point or down on the ground, Austin’s eye gravitates to balance, hard angles and stark lines. “I love to have perfect symmetry in my images,” said Austin. The Galaxy Note9 camera’s gridlines help him “make everything perfectly straight,” he added. He uses them to align a shot and capture consistent composition in his travel photography.
When lighting gets tricky
There’s freedom in traveling light
The Galaxy Note9 allows Austin to lose the heavy bags, giving him more freedom to explore and capture his best Instagram photos. “It’s almost like I’m stepping back from worrying so much about all this equipment and I’m really able to take in the location—more than I ever have in the past,” said Austin.
What’s next
The bucket list grows longer, as does the shot list. He’s gearing up for more travel and testing for his drone photography license. “I’d definitely like to expand my gallery work and start a business doing drone work,” said Austin.
We can’t wait to see the heights he reaches.
