How to set up and use the Bixby Routines feature on your Galaxy phone

Save time and effort with the Bixby Routines feature on your Galaxy phone. Bixby learns your life patterns and recommends automated work routines, so you no longer have to spend time repeating the same tasks and setups. When you get to work in the morning, Bixby can mute notification sounds and turn on Wi-Fi. Or, when you are going to sleep, Bixby can activate the Blue light filter and lower your screen's brightness level. Before you try out the recommendations below, be sure to check if your device's software and related apps are updated to the latest version. To update your mobile device's software, follow these steps: 

Step 1. Go to Settings > Software update.

Step 2. Tap on Download and install.

Step 3. Follow the on-screen instructions.

How to access Bixby Routines

There are two different ways to access Bixby Routines on your phone:

1. Open from Settings.

Step 1. Go to Settings and then select Advanced features.

Step 2. Choose Bixby Routines.

2. Open in Quick panel

Step 1. Go to Quick panel and then swipe left.

Step 2. Tap and hold the Bixby Routines icon.

To make accessing Bixby Routines easier, you can add an icon to your phone's App screen. While in Bixby Routines, tap More options (the three vertical dots), and then tap Settings. Tap the switch next to Add Bixby Routines to Apps screen.

Note: If there is no Bixby Routines icon in the Quick panel, you can add it by tapping the + icon.

From waking up in the morning to getting ready for bed, there is a Bixby Routine for every part of your day. You can activate the recommended routines. Follow the steps below to set up Bixby Routines.

Step 1. Open Bixby Routines, and then tap the Discover tab. You’ll see all kinds of routines.

Step 2. Tap a routine to customise it. You can select widgets and apps to use and change the conditions. For example, At work is one condition.

Step 3. Tap Edit to customise the settings to your liking.

Step 4. Tap Next. You can set a name for your custom routine, as well as an icon and colour that will be displayed in My routines

You can also make your own routines. You can choose from a wide variety of triggers that can perform almost any task on your phone. Follow the steps below to create a new custom routine.

Step 1. Open Bixby Routines, and then tap the Add routine tab. 

Step 2. Tap the picture under If. Tap an item on the list of possible triggers. Each trigger will have additional options and instructions.

Step 3. Once you've set up the trigger, tap the picture under Then. 

Step 4. Tap a category for the action you'd like to perform, and then tap the action you'd like to perform. Many actions will have additional options and settings.

Step 5. When your trigger and action are set up, tap Next. You can set a name for your custom routine, as well as an icon and colour that will be displayed in My routines

Step 6. Tap Done.

Note: By default, Bixby Routines will stop the action when the trigger ends, and return any changed settings to their previous state.

To turn off saved routines individually, follow the steps below.

Step 1. Open Bixby Routines, and then tap the My routines tab.

Step 2. Find and tap the routine you want to disable. For example, Do not disturb.

Step 4. Tap Disable this routine, and then tap Disable. You can turn on or edit the disabled routine again at any time.

Note: If you choose to see Routine notifications on the Lock screen, you can tap Stop on the notification to end the Routine. Or, you can turn it on or off from the My routines tab in Bixby Routines.
