How did you get into Investing?

By chance really. After finishing university, I was still unclear about my future career. My dad always worked in finance and suggested I try out a trading course. I took up the suggestion, quickly took to it and soon got a job full-time trading. Not long after this, I was approached by another company for a role helping out other aspiring traders. This was a perfect opportunity for me and it’s where I found my true passion, educating others about investing.

What’s the best Investing lesson you’ve learnt?

Don’t put too much money into one individual investment. If it works you look like a genius but if it doesn't you lose too much money. Diversification is key. Also, don't listen to friends for stock tips without doing your own research first!

Best piece of advice you’d give to someone thinking about investing?

Get your finances in order first, make sure you have an emergency pot just in case you were to lose your job or be hit with some unexpected expense. Once that is taken care of, invest as much as you’re willing to lose and be prepared to hold your investments for the long run.

Best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

Invest every single month, no matter how small. This means you don’t have to worry about mistiming the market by investing a huge lump sum just before a share price crash. You also benefit from compounding, with the returns you generate going back into your pot to generate ever more returns.

What’s one of the strangest thing you’ve heard in this industry?

Someone once told me the stock market will move based on astrology. With stats, you can make them fit almost any narrative, but I think basing an investment strategy on the movements of the planets and stars is a little too out there for me. It’s not something I would advise.
