Samsung extends WindFree™ wall-mounted range with PM1.0 air purification filter for residential market
Following the introduction of the new Air Purification Panels for light commercial and commercial spaces, Samsung now announces the WindFree™ Pure 1.0, a wall-mounted air conditioner for residential homes equipped with a PM1.0 filter. The WindFree™ Pure 1.0 features an electrostatic PM1.0 filter, which works as an air purifier, complemented by Samsung’s unique WindFree™ Cooling technology, Freeze Wash functionality and intelligent control options.
January 27, Amsterdam, the Netherlands – Samsung Electronics Air Conditioner Europe B.V. (SEACE) today officially launches the WindFree™ Pure 1.0: the new wall-mounted air conditioner model for the residential market equipped with a PM1.0 filter for air purification, the unique WindFree™ Cooling technology, Freeze Wash functionality and smart control functionalities. The wall-mounted model is equipped with an electrostatic PM1.0 filter, which works as an air purifier. The PM1.0 filter can filter dust particles up to 0.3 μm / microns, sterilize microorganisms using an electrostatic charger, providing cleaner and purer air in residential homes. The WindFree™ Pure 1.0 is available as per February 2021. Availability may differ per market.
“In the past year we have witnessed a growing concern for the impacts of pollution and unclean air, and an increased demand for improved indoor climate comfort in residential homes.” said Xavier Feys, Vice President Pre-Sales, Business Development, Customer Service and Product Management at SEACE. “With the introduction of the Air Purification Panels for light commercial and commercial spaces in 2020, we directly addressed these concerns. I am proud that with the launch of the WindFree™ Pure 1.0, we are now able to also offer our residential users a solution which ensures cleaner and purer air year-round.”
An air purification filter for fresh and cleaner air
The WindFree™ Pure 1.0 is equipped with an electrostatic PM1.0 filter, which works as an air purifier. The PM1.0 Filter does not only capture ultrafine dust up to 0.3 μm but also inactivates certain types of bacteria1. that are captured, using an electrostatic precipitator. It has two main parts that charge and collect dust and certain types of bacteria1. The brush discharger generates negative ions and these give the dust particles and certain types of bacteria a negative charge, so they become strongly attached to the ground electrode due to the electrostatic force of the collector. The sterilization performance has been validated by British certification expert Intertek2. The research report of Intertek verified that the filter sterilizes more than 99% of the tested microorganisms captured by it1. The PM1.0 filter is semi-washable, providing users with the advantage of enjoying fresh and cleaner air whilst saving on the additional maintenance cost of replacing the filter.
Freeze Wash functionality
Unique to the WindFree™ Pure 1.0 is the inclusion of the Freeze Wash functionality. This functionality helps clean the unit and removes up to 90% of certain types of bacteria3. With this functionality, the heat exchanger of the indoor unit is cooled to -15 °C to cover it with frost. When put into defrost mode, the melting ice removes certain types of bacteria within the heat exchanger. Via the SmartThings app4 a notification can be sent when the heat exchanger needs to be cleaned via the Freeze Wash functionality.
Air Purity Levels indicator
The WindFree™ Pure 1.0 features a new advanced display, from where the quality of the indoor air can be easily monitored. The laser sensor, located on the display, measures the concentrations of PM10, PM2.5 and PM1.0 in the indoor air and can clean itself with an AI enabled function. Air quality is automatically indicated on the display based on the highest measured concentration and expressed using four different levels/colors, ranging from ‘very good’ (blue), ‘good’ (green), ‘poor’ (yellow) to ‘very poor’ (red).
Track indoor air quality via the SmartThings app
Indoor air quality can be continuously monitored via the SmartThings app4. Even when the unit is turned off, the dust sensor is able to register the current air quality in the room. A notification is sent when air pollution reaches the level ‘poor’ or ‘very poor’. Via the SmartThings app, the user can respond to the information by turning on the purify mode remotely. Besides the monitoring of the air quality and turning on or off the purify mode, the Samsung SmartThings app and Bixby Voice Control4 let users turn their air conditioner on or off, select preferred cooling modes, schedule operations, and monitor energy consumption.
WindFree™ cooling technology
Similar to the existing WindFree™ wall-mounted models for residential usage, the WindFree™ Pure 1.0 is equipped with the unique Samsung WindFree™ technology. WindFree™ technology enhances indoor comfort by using thousands of micro-holes to disperse fresh air uniformly without any unpleasant blasts of cold wind. In WindFree™ mode, air is spread softly and silently, creating a ‘Still Air’5 environment that allows people to live, work and relax comfortably without experiencing unpleasant cold drafts.
