Our steps towards a better future
We consider energy efficiency and resource circularity for our products throughout their entire life cycles. This involves implementing various measures during the stages of sourcing, production, distribution, use, and recycling to reduce our impact on the environment.
Our efforts on energy
We have developed various technologies to reduce energy usage through
energy-efficient appliances. With our solutions, you can make an impact on both your energy bills and the environment.
SmartThings Energy
in your life
Manage your energy with SmartThings Energy.1 Connect the SmartThings Energy app to your smart metre for better energy choices. Effortlessly manage your energy usage, set energy goals, and receive alerts when you exceed energy usage.
Automatically adjust the
brightness of your TV
Our TV models2 released from 2024 save energy through intelligent brightness sensing. Watch your favourite shows with energy savings3 on Neo QLED.
Our efforts on resource
We take into account resource-saving to ensure that materials are reused, and waste is reduced. We strive to make a difference for the environment through small steps.
Repurposing discarded items into new products
We have developed innovative technologies to recycle discarded fishing nets and other discarded items, such as water barrels and CD cases, which have the potential to disrupt the environment.
Starting from Galaxy S22 Ultra4, these materials have been incorporated into various products, including Galaxy smartphones (S24 Ultra, Z Fold6, Z Flip6)5, Tab S9 Ultra6, Watch Ultra7, Buds3 Pro8, SolarCell remote9, and Bespoke Jet™ AI10.
Reducing microplastic emissions from laundry
You can reduce microplastic emissions from your laundry with our washing machines’ Less Microfiber™ Cycle, which effectively reduces microplastic shedding by 54%11 and the Less Microfiber™ Filter which captures approximately 89-98% of microplastics released when washing.12
Old Samsung Galaxy upcycled as home devices
Transform your old Samsung Galaxy into a smart home device, helping to save resources and reduce e-waste.
Re-creation, not disposal
Our process brings new life into old materials, transforming them into valuable resources through e-waste recycling.
Regional Recycling Programmes
We take back and recycle e-waste in collaboration with local recycling schemes and organisations.

- 1 SmartThings Energy service availability varies by country, region, or device. Available on Android and iOS devices (Android OS 9↑, iOS 14↑). A Wi-Fi connection and a Samsung Account are required. All devices need to be registered in the SmartThings app to monitor energy consumption. AI Energy Mode feature may vary by country, region, or device. It can switch all of your compatible smart appliances to Energy Saving mode either automatically or if your estimated monthly electricity bill exceeds your preset target. (ex. Refrigerator: optimising compressor speed and operation and adjusting the set of freezer temperature) The energy usage and estimated cost shown in SmartThings Energy may differ from your actual usage and cost.
- 2 AI Energy Mode is applied to DU7000 and higher models, as well as LS01D/LS03D, released in 2024. Learn more at Samsung.com.
- 3 Energy saving rate may vary according to regions, models, sizes, viewing conditions or types of content. Products shipped in Eco Mode have some AI Energy Mode functions enabled by default, so energy saving level by turning on AI Energy Mode may appear lower than actual. AI Energy Mode does not work with Game Mode. Energy savings are based on internal test results and may vary depending on content being displayed and surrounding brightness levels.
- 4 Galaxy S22 Ultra: 6 device components that feature a minimum of 20% post-consumer recycled material plastic. These components include S Pen Inner Cover and Key Bracket (RPA), Side Key, Volume Key, Speaker Module Upper and Speaker Module Lower (RPC). RPA (Recycled Polyamide) is made from discarded fishing nets. RPC means Recycled Polycarbonate. Measured based on weight.
- 5 Galaxy S24 Ultra features 9 components (Galaxy Z Fold6 and Flip6: 13 components) made with a minimum of 10% recycled plastics sourced from discarded fishing nets, water barrels, and PET bottles.
- 6 Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra features 15 components made with a minimum of 10% recycled plastics sourced from discarded fishing nets, water barrels, and PBT wastes.
- 7 Galaxy Watch Ultra features 2 components made with a minimum of 20% recycled plastics sourced from discarded water barrels.
- 8 Galaxy Buds3 Pro features 17 components made with a minimum of 20% recycled plastics sourced from discarded fishing nets and water barrels.
- 9 Case of SolarCell Remote includes a minimum of 24% recycled plastic in CU7700 and higher models, released in 2023. Measured based on weight. Bracket of SolarCell Remote only for 2024 new model of The Frame, The Serif, and The Premiere includes a minimum of 20% recycled materials from discarded fishing nets. Measured based on weight.
- 10 The Clean Station's grille filter in Bespoke Jet™ AI is made of at least 30% Post Consumer Recycled material (PCM) and at least 10% recycled polyamide (PA) material from marine waste. Measured based on weight. For the content of recycled materials, those materials obtained ECV (Environmental Claims Validations) from UL (Underwriters Laboratories). (UL certification number: 293089-4210)
- 11 Tested with 2kg load of 100% polyester hoodies, comparing Synthetics cycle on Samsung Conventional model WW4000T and the Less Microfiber™ Cycle on WW9000B. The results may be different depending on the clothes and environment. Tested at the Ocean Wise Plastics Lab.
- 12 Captures approximately 89-98%; laboratory tested using 2kg synthetic fabric load in the WW90T734DWH, WF24A9500KW, washing machine.
