Solve For Tomorrow 2024 Terms and Conditions

  1. Solve for Tomorrow (the "Competition") is organised by Samsung Electronics Singapore Pte. Ltd. of 30 Pasir Panjang Road Mapletree Business City #17-31/32 Singapore 117440 ("Samsung") and is open to participants who are residents of Singapore and aged between 12 to 18 years old as stated on their Identity Card / Passport (as of 23 May 2024), and have (and will continue to be) enrolled in Singapore as full-time students in any secondary schools (collectively referred to as "Schools") between 23 May 2024 to 31 December 2024 including:
    1. Government schools (including autonomous schools)
    2. Government-aided schools (including autonomous schools)
    3. Independent schools
    4. Specialised independent schools (SIS)
    5. Specialised schools
    6. Special education (SPED) schools
  2. All participants (“minors”) must obtain their parent's or legal guardian's prior acknowledgment of and consent to their participation in the Competition and to these Terms and Conditions. The registration of any team consisting of Minors will not be accepted and any entry submitted by such team will not be valid until Samsung has received all duly completed parental consent forms from the respective parents or legal guardians of all Minors in the team.
  3. Employees and agents of the promoters of this Competition (Starcom, TLBB, IN.FOM), and Samsung, their respective families, households or anyone professionally connected with this Competition (in Samsung's opinion), are not eligible to enter this Competition.
  4. By submitting a video / supporting document, each participant agrees to be bound by these Terms and Conditions. For minors, such Participant’s parent or legal guardian warrants and agrees that the participant and his/her parent or legal guardian shall be irrevocably bound by these Terms and Conditions. All rules and regulations and instructions issued by Samsung from time to time will be deemed incorporated in these Terms and Conditions.
  5. Samsung reserves the right, at its sole and absolute discretion at any time without assigning any reason, to amend these Terms and Conditions, including without limitation changing the Competition mechanics, Competition period, Entry Submission Period and/or substituting the prize(s) with other item(s). No person shall be entitled to, and Samsung shall not be liable for, any payment or compensation (whether in cash, credit or kind) whatsoever arising from the foregoing.
  6. The Competition mechanics are as follows:
    1. The period for submission of Entries for the Competition will commence on 23 May 2024, 3.00 PM, Singapore Time, and close on 4 August 2024, 11.59 PM Singapore Time (“Entry Submission Period”).
    2. The Competition is eligible for:
      1. Participants in Secondary 1 to Secondary 5, studying full-time in any secondary schools in Singapore, excluding IP (Integrated Programme) secondary schools with 6-year IP programmes.
      2. Participants in Secondary 1 to Secondary 4, studying full-time in institutions with IP programmes, including the following schools with 6-year IP programmes:
        1. Dunman High School
        2. National Junior College
        3. River Valley High School
        4. Temasek Junior College
        5. Anglo-Chinese School (Independent)
        6. St. Joseph’s Institution
        7. NUS High School of Mathematics and Science
        8. SOTA, School of the Arts, Singapore
    3. Participants must form and register as a team of minimum two (2) students, up to a maximum of four (4) students (“Team”). Participants need not be from the same school. Each participant are not allowed to be part of more than one (1) Team.
    4. There are a total of two (2) phases for the Competition:
      1. Submission Phase (23 May 2024 to 4 August 2024): Teams need to complete all required fields on the Competition microsite and upload supporting documents (if any) onto the Competition microsite within the Entry Submission Period.
      2. Finalist Phase (5 August 2024 to 31 October 2024): 10 finalist teams will be selected and notified by email. Finalist teams to expand on their ideas in a PowerPoint presentation and share a video on their solution.
    5. Each Entry must comprise of:
      1. Chosen Theme (from one of the five themes specified by Samsung);
      2. Title of project;
      3. Opportunity or problem that the Team is addressing (100-word limit);
      4. Big idea that explains the original, innovative idea on how to solve issues in Singapore using technology (200-word limit); and
    6. Supporting documents if any. Each duly submitted entry in accordance with the terms herein shall be referred to as an “Entry”.
    7. Each Team may submit only one (1) entry during the stipulated Entry Submission Period.
    8. Entries will only qualify for the Competition if submitted within the Entry Submission Period. Entries submitted outside of the Entry Submission Period, or submitted through any means other than specified herein, will not be eligible for the Competition. Any complaints on missing and/or delayed submissions will not be entertained.
  7. Samsung makes no guarantee of the availability of its or any other web services and will not be held responsible for any interruption, delay or failure of service that may interfere with the ability to participate in the Competition.
  8. Each Entry will be individually judged by Samsung at Samsung’s sole discretion, based on the following criteria:
    1. Submission Phase
      1. 20%: Identifying the issues and relevance in addressing them.
      2. 25%: Practicality of solution proposed (feasibility/ ease of implementation).
      3. 25%: Creativity and Innovativeness of solution (uniqueness and originality).
      4. 25%: Use of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) to solve the identified issue.
      5. 5%: Early Bird Bonus for teams who submit their entry by 17 June 2024, 11:59 PM, Singapore Time.
    2. Finale Event
      1. 30%: Elaboration on how the solution can be created and implemented (feasibility/ ease of implementation).
      2. 20%: Creativity and Innovativeness of idea (uniqueness and creativity).
      3. 25%: Elaboration of the use of STEM involved and how it is used to solve the identified issue.
      4. 20%: Flow and effectiveness of presentation.
      5. 5%: Public vote. Finalists’ ideas will be posted online, and the public can vote for their favorite idea.
  9. Finalist teams are encouraged to showcase their prototypes, or images of video of their prototypes during their presentation at the finale event. This can help finalist teams earn extra points in the “feasibility”, “innovativeness” and “presentation effectiveness” criteria.
  10. Awards and Prizes:
    1. Finale Event: 3 Teams will be selected. The winning Teams will receive the following prizes:
      1. First Prize
        1. S$10,000 Samsung products
        2. S$7,000 cash
      2. Second Prize
        1. S$7,000 Samsung products
        2. S$5,000 cash prize
      3. Third Prize
        1. S$5,000 Samsung products
        2. S$3,000 cash prize
    2. Prizes are not exchangeable by the winner(s) for other items and may not be allocated other than as set out above.
  11. Winning / selected teams for each phase of the Competition will be notified via email. Verified winners will then be provided with instructions on the collection of the prizes and further details after the Finalist Phase.
  12. The Winning teams will be provided with a Samsung product list from which they can choose their products. Selections must be made exclusively from the provided list, and choosing of products outside of the list is not permitted.
  13. Winning teams are required to collect their prize(s) from Samsung’s office within 7 days after receiving confirmation from Samsung. In the event that any prize is unclaimed within such period, or there is no winner determined in respect of the prize, it will be dealt with at Samsung’s sole discretion. Samsung is not obliged to arrange for any delivery of the prizes to the winning teams and any delivery required will be on a case-by-case basis, at Samsung’s sole discretion.
  14. Winning teams shall nominate any Team member(s) to collect the prize(s) in person from the Samsung office, who will be required to present their proof of identity and email verification for verification purposes. If a winning Team requires a proxy (18 years or older) to collect the prize on their behalf, a photocopy of a Team member’s identity card/ passport, an authorisation letter stating the Team’s authorisation for the proxy to collect the prize on their behalf and duly signed by such Team member, and the proxy’s identity card/ passport, must be presented by the proxy for verification purposes. Samsung reserves the right to reject any prize collection that does not adhere to the process stated herein. For the avoidance of doubt, all of the foregoing documents will only be sighted for verification purposes at the point of prize collection and will not be retained by Samsung.
  15. Samsung does not undertake any responsibility or obligation to ensure that any prize(s) will be delivered to any winner(s). To the fullest extent permissible under applicable law, Samsung disclaims all warranties and representations of any kind, express or implied, including without limitation any warranty or representation that the prize(s) will meet the winner(s)’ requirements, or that any prize(s) will be delivered or transferred to the winner(s). To the fullest extent permissible under applicable law, Samsung (including its officers, employees and agents) excludes all liability (including for negligence), for any personal injury, or any loss or damage (including loss of opportunity), whether direct, indirect, special or consequential, arising in any way out of the Competition, including but not limited to, where arising out of the following: (i) any technical difficulties or equipment malfunction (whether or not under Samsung's control); (ii) any theft, unauthorised access or third party interference; (iii) any Entry, claim or prize that is late, lost, altered, damaged or misdirected (whether or not after receipt by Samsung) due to any reason beyond the reasonable control of Samsung; (iv) any variation to the prize(s) value from that stated in these Terms & Conditions; (v) any tax liability incurred by participant(s); or (vi) use of the prize(s). The prize(s) may be subject to additional terms and conditions, and the winner(s) agree to comply with all terms and conditions applicable to the prize(s).
  16. Samsung collects participants' personal information in order to conduct the Competition, and may, for this purpose, use, process and/or disclose (including to third parties overseas) such personal information in accordance with these Terms & Conditions the Samsung Privacy Policy (www.samsung.com/sg/info/privacy.html). Each participant (or in the case of Minors, participant's parent/ legal guardian) consents to such collection, use, processing and disclosure of his/her personal information, and represents and warrants that all information provided is true and accurate in all respects. Validity of an Entry is conditional on all Team members providing this information.
  17. By participating in the Competition, each participant is communicating with Samsung electronically. By doing so, each participant agrees to receive communications from Samsung electronically. Samsung will communicate by electronic mail at the electronic mail address provided by the participant and/or posting notices on the Competition microsite. Each participant consents to receiving electronically all agreements, notices, disclosures and other communications that Samsung provides in relation to the Competition.
  18. Each Team represents and warrants that (i) their Entry has not been previously entered in other competitions or made available to the general public outside of the Team members’ Schools; (ii) they possess the exclusive rights to their Entry submitted hereunder and have the full and unrestricted right to transfer the same to Samsung free and clear of any claims or encumbrances; (iii) the Entry shall not infringe the intellectual property, privacy, publicity or other rights or interest of any third party or result in any other liability; (iv) their Entry does not contain anything that may be deemed by Samsung to be false, misleading, pornographic, libellous, defamatory, obscene, indecent, sexually explicit, hateful, political, racist, religious, blasphemous, harassing, threatening, or otherwise illegal, offensive or objectionable; and (v) their Entry shall not solicit funds or include programs that contain viruses, Trojan horses, worms, time bombs or any other programmes designed to impair the operation and functionality of the Competition microsite or websites linked to the Competition microsite. Samsung reserves the right to moderate the entries and remove any non-compliant entry, and to report any violations to the authorities if deemed necessary.
  19. Each participant agrees that he/she may be required by Samsung to take part in marketing, promotional and/or publicity exercises with respect to the Competition, and may be requested by Samsung to grant to Samsung such consents and waivers in respect of Samsung’s use and/or disclosure of his/her name, voice, photograph, likeness or other personal identifiable information in any media (including such personal identifiable information contained in any promotional photographs and/or audio/video recordings taken in respect of the Competition), for the promotion and publicity of this Competition, the Samsung brand and/or Samsung products. Each participant agrees that he/she is free to decline to participate or to provide such consents and waivers; however, in such an event then the participant or his/her Team may be disqualified from participating in the Competition. For the avoidance of doubt, each Team agrees that Samsung shall be at liberty to publish, promote, copy, reproduce, transmit, display, edit, adapt, modify, create derivative works of and/or otherwise distribute or use their Entry (or any part thereof, including to add Samsung branding, logo, name, mark, and/or product image): (i) in connection with (including for the promotion and publicity of) this Competition, the Samsung brand and/or Samsung products; (ii) in any manner, format or media whether now known or hereinafter created (including without limitation on online platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and Instagram) and in any part of the world; (iii) at Samsung's sole direction; and (iv) royalty-free and without any obligation of attribution or further consent. Each participant hereby irrevocably grants to Samsung all consents and waivers necessary in connection with the above, without further compensation to the Team and where not prohibited by written law.
  20. Each Team consents and agrees that their Entry may be made available by Samsung for viewing (in any manner and format) and commenting on by the public, and that comments or ratings that they disagree with or are unhappy about may be published or otherwise become associated with the Entry. By submitting their Entry, each Team waives any privacy expectations that they may have with respect to their Entry.
  21. Each participant shall not, without the prior written approval of Samsung, disclose (including without limitation on online platforms and social media) any confidential information provided to him/her or which he/she has access to as a result of his/her participation in the Competition, or speak or give any interviews or comments to the press or any other media relating to the Competition without Samsung’s prior written consent.
  22. Samsung reserves the right to disqualify any participant or Team suspected of fraud, or whose Entry and/or results Samsung believes have been manipulated in any way by machines or computers, or who otherwise interferes with the Competition or does not adhere to these Terms and Conditions.
  23. To the maximum extent permitted by law, each participant agrees to indemnify and hold Samsung harmless from and against any and all claims, damages, liabilities, costs and expenses (including legal costs on an indemnity basis) arising from the alleged or actual infringement of any third party copyright, patent, trademark or other intellectual property rights, or other rights, any breach by the participant of these Terms and Conditions and/or otherwise arising out of or in connection with the participant’s participation in the Competition.
  24. Except where expressly provided herein, each participant shall bear his/her own costs and expenses incurred and/or arising from his/her participation in the Competition, and no reimbursement may be sought from Samsung.
  25. In the event of any dispute arising from the Competition or relating to the interpretation of these Terms and Conditions, the decision of Samsung shall be final and binding on all parties. No correspondence, appeal or further claims will be entertained.
  26. Samsung reserves the right to amend these Terms and Conditions from time to time, and modify, cancel or suspend the Competition at its sole discretion at any time. These Terms and Conditions shall be governed and construed in accordance with the laws of Singapore, and each participant irrevocably submits to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Singapore.
