How to use Amazon Alexa on your Samsung soundbar or speaker

Connecting your Samsung soundbar or speaker to Amazon Alexa allows you to communicate with your soundbar or speaker using voice commands. To get started with Alexa, you’ll need to add your soundbar or speaker to the SmartThings app on your phone or tablet, and then sign into your Amazon account.

In order to use Alexa with your Samsung soundbar or speaker, you must add the soundbar or speaker to the SmartThings app on your phone or tablet. You can use the following steps to add your device to the SmartThings app.

Note: You will need to log into your Samsung account to use SmartThings. You can create a Samsung account if you do not have one.

1 Install and open the SmartThings app on your phone or tablet. Tap Add (the plus sign), then tap Add device, and then tap Add under Samsung devices.

2 Tap Soundbar or Speaker, depending on your device type.

3 Follow the on-screen instructions to add your soundbar or speaker to SmartThings.
4 After the device has been added, select the device’s card in the app to open its settings and options.
5 Next, tap More options (the three vertical dots), then tap Alexa Settings, and then tap Amazon Alexa.

6 Tap Sign In, and then tap GET STARTED on the Welcome to Alexa screen.

7 Tap CONTINUE SETUP.

8 You’ll be prompted to sign into your Amazon account. Enter your credentials, and then tap Sign in.

9 Allow the voice service and connection permissions by tapping Allow.

10 Select your preferred language, and then tap Next.
11 Review the information about using Alexa, and then tap Done.
12 You can now use Alexa with your soundbar or speaker.

Notes:

  • This feature may not be supported depending on the country and model.
  • Supported countries for this feature must follow Amazon Alexa policies.
  • Supported Samsung soundbars and speakers include: Q9, Q8, S6, S8, and the Music Frame series.
