How to upgrade the OS on your Samsung Smart TV

Operating System (OS) upgrades provide access to enhanced features, new features, and bug fixes. Our guide provides instructions for upgrading your Samsung TV to the newest OS version over the internet or by using a USB flash drive, so you can access and use these new features.

Models eligible for OS upgrade: 2023 Samsung Smart TVs, Smart Monitors, and Projectors (with some model exceptions).

Notes:

  • The models and schedule for OS upgrades may vary by country.
  • After upgrading to a new OS, you cannot revert to the previous version.
  • If your device is reset during the OS upgrade, please perform the initial setup again before use.
  • Video and audio settings may be reset to their default settings after upgrading the OS.
  • After upgrading the OS, you can check if the current software version is 2011 or later by performing the following: navigate to Settings, then select All Settings, and then select Support. Select Software Update, and then select Current Version.

If the TV is connected to the internet, you can upgrade the OS to the newest version through a pop-up notification. To upgrade the OS, ensure the latest software version is installed. If the OS upgrade pop-up notification does not appear, please update to the latest software first.

1 When you turn your TV off and on again, select Details on the notification message that appears in the upper right corner of the screen.

2 Select when to begin the upgrade.

3 Review the details of the upgrade.

4 If Upgrade While Off is selected, the OS will upgrade automatically when the TV is turned off.
5 Turn on the TV and wait approximately 10 minutes for the upgrade to complete.

6 Select Get Started.

Note: The upgrade notification will always appear when the TV is turned off and then on, regardless of the Auto Update settings.

If the TV is connected to the internet, you can use the TV menu to upgrade the OS to the newest version. To upgrade the OS, you must have the latest software version installed on your TV. Please update to the latest software version by selecting Update Now from the TV menu, and then proceed with the OS upgrade. If you have the latest software version installed on your TV, the OS upgrade will proceed immediately.

1 Navigate to and select All Settings, then select Support, and then select Software Update. Select Update Now.

3 Review the details of the upgrade and start the procedure.

4 The upgrade will take at least 10 minutes to complete. Then the TV will automatically restart.

5 Please wait a few moments for the upgrade to complete.

You can upgrade the software on your TV to the newest OS version by downloading the upgrade file from the Samsung website and saving it to a USB flash drive. The OS upgrade file (USB type) contains both the latest software version and the OS upgrade software file. Follow the instructions to update your software to the latest version before proceeding with the OS upgrade.

1 On your TV, navigate to Settings, then select All Settings, then select Support, and then select About TV to find your TV Model Code.

2 Using a computer, visit the Samsung website and then select Support in the top right corner. Select Manual and Software.

3 Next, enter your TV’s model code to access the support page for your specific model. You can also select your product type and then search for your product.

4 Locate the OS Upgrade File (USB Type) and select Download.

5 Allow the download to complete. When the file has finished downloading, locate it and then unzip it. There is normally one folder inside but there may be multiple files.

6 Next, connect a USB flash drive to your computer. Copy or move all of the files that were included in the zip file to the USB flash drive, but do not place them inside any other folders. If you place the software folders inside a folder on the USB flash drive, the TV or monitor will not find them.

Notes:

  • The file contains both the most recent version of the software and the newest OS upgrade software.
  • Save the update package in the USB drive’s top-level folder. Otherwise, the TV will not be able to locate the update package.
  • If there are multiple files, place all of the files in the USB drive’s top-level folder.
7 Insert the USB flash drive into a USB port on your TV.

8 Update the software to the most recent version. In order to upgrade the TV to the newest OS version, the TV must be running the most recent version of the software. If the latest version of the software is already installed, the OS upgrade will proceed immediately.

Note: The upgrade will take at least 10 minutes to complete. Then the TV will restart automatically. Do not turn off the TV or remove the USB flash drive until the upgrade is complete.

Step 1. Navigate to and select All Settings, then select Support, then select Software Update, and then select Update Now.

9 Then, upgrade the OS to the newest version.

Step 1. Navigate to and select All Settings, then select Support, then select Software Update, and then select Update Now.
