Creating STEM Solutions for communities
Solve for Tomorrow aims to empower STEM students to share and realize their ideas, turning them into practical solutions that can create an impact on the local community.
As of 2020, Samsung Solve for Tomorrow has benefited over 2 million people and has expanded to 50 other countries with the Philippines being the latest addition this 2023.
How to Join:
- Students in Grades 8-10 from government-managed science high schools are eligible to join. Form a group with a maximum of four members, along with one teacher adviser.
- Identify either a local community problem or an environmental sustainability problem that you want to solve with technology, and present your solution in either a presentation format (maximum of five slides) or a word document (maximum of 2,500 words).
- The deadline of entries is on November 3, 2023.
Globally, Solve For Tomorrow has allowed young students to empower others with technology.

What is Solve for Tomorrow?
- Samsung's Solve for Tomorrow is a competition rolled out globally which aims to empower STEM students to share and realize their ideas, turning them into practical solutions that can create an impact on the local community. 2023 is the first time that this will be rolled out in the Philippines.

Why did Samsung come up with Solve for Tomorrow?
- Solve for Tomorrow is part of Samsung's CSR vision of 'Together for Tomorrow! Enabling People'. Our mission is to empower and support the next generation to achieve their full potential and pioneer positive social changes. Creating a better world is what makes innovations meaningful. In order to approach problems in new ways and to find solutions, the next generations will have to be more creative and this is why Samsung focuses on education.

Who can join?
- The competition is open to Grades 8-10 students of government-managed Science High Schools. They should form a team of maximum four students each, and choose one faculty adviser from their respective schools.

How many entries can we enter?
- Each team of four members and one teacher adviser can only enter one entry. There will be no limit to how many teams can join per school.

How do I join?
- Teams formed should identify a local community / environmental sustainability problem they want to solve with technology and come up with a design proposal presented via a slides presentation (5 slides max) or word document (2,500 words max). Once entry is finalized, submission is via the Solve for Tomorrow registration form. Deadline for entries is November 3, 2023.

What is the process for judging?
- From the submitted entries, Samsung will identify the top 10 based on the given criteria. The top 10 teams will then undergo coaching with technology experts from Samsung to help improve and prepare their entries for the final judging round, which will entail all top 10 teams presenting their proposals to a board of judges. Winners will be announced on 29 November 2023.

Full mechanics
General mechanics:
- The Solve For Tomorrow contest event will run for 7 weeks from September 19 to November 3, 2023.
- The Solve For Tomorrow contest is open to all government-managed Science High Schools students in the Philippines from Grades 8-10. Currently residing in the Philippines. Employees of Samsung Electronics Philippines Corporation and its advertising agency partners are not eligible to join the contest as well as their relatives up to 2nd party of consanguinity or affinity.
- Participants should be students of high schools in the Philippines specified in the appendix.
- Participants must form a team maximum of four (4) members.
- A participant can only be part of one (1) team.
- A team should have one (1) chosen faculty adviser.
- A faculty adviser can only be part of one (1) team.
- All member should agree to the Samsung terms and conditions during account creation before idea submission on the Samsung Create website.
- Team will choose one problem crafted to following areas of interest (applicable to PH setting):
- Environmental Sustainability
- Local community problem that they want to solve with technology
- Entries must be submitted via the Samsung website.
- Top 10 entries will be presented to a panel of judges through criteria for judging.
- Three winners will be chosen.
Registration:
- To qualify for the contest, a team representative must register to create their account and submit their idea entry. The team representative is required to fill up the following details:
- Full name of the participant registering for the contest
- Contact number
- Complete address
- Email address
- Names of the three (3) members
- Name of the faculty adviser
- School name (select based on the drop down menu/appendix)
- Student and Adviser ID in one image/scanned File Upload - Should not exceed 40mb
- STEM Proposal File Upload

- *Only entries registered through our website will be considered for this promotion.*
- *By participating in this promo, all participants are giving Samsung Electronics Philippines Corporation the rights to use all submitted entries in all promotional activities/materials of the promotion.*
- Participants can only have one (1) account for the contest.
- Teams can only have one (1) STEM proposal submission entry for the contest.
- STEM proposal should follow the following:
- Proposal should be limited to 2,500 words only
- Proposal should be limited to 5 slides/pages only
- Proposal should be in PDF format only
- File size should not exceed 40mb
- By officially registering and uploading their entry on the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow website, the participant also gives their consent that their idea submission can be used for marketing purposes for this contest. This includes using the videos of their entries for marketing materials for this promo.
- Registration and screening schedule are as follows:

- Announcement of Top 10 short-listed entries: November 13, 2023
Step proposal qualifying round:
- After the STEM proposal registration closes, all entries will be reviewed and evaluated to the judges from Samsung Electronics Philippines Corporation (SEPCO) and Samsung Research Philippines (SRPH) in the presence of a DTI representative.
- A summary report of the evaluation results will be submitted to the DTI representative.
- There will be a total of 10 short-listed ideas based on the criteria below.

Announcement of short-listed entries:
- Short-listed STEM proposals will be announced within three (3) working days after the screening via the Samsung website and notified through mail, electronic mail and a phone call from Samsung Corporation's representative.
- Samsung reserves the right to verify the details submitted by the participants through the Samsung Create website to ensure that all details are correct and valid.
Idea mentorship:
- Ten (10) short-listed STEM proposals will be assigned with a coach from Samsung.
- Coaching will start from November 16 to 23, 2023.
- During this period, the team will communicate with their coaches for the proposal improvement, proof-of-concept or mock-up creation, and with a requirement to expand their presentation to maximum of 20 slides/pages for the final presentation.
Final idea presentation and judging:
- Ten (10) short-listed teams will present their final ideas and will be judged on November 24, 2023 at specify the location, in person/on-line for those not based in Metro Manila.
- Each team will be given fifteen (15) minutes to present their STEM proposal in front of the board of judges from the following sectors:
- Government
- Samsung Electronics Philippines Corporation
- The board of judges may give their immediate feedback to the presenting team.
- The board of judges will rate the teams based on the following criteria:
