1 What is Samsung SmartThings?

SmartThings is a technology company, which was acquired by Samsung in 2014 and subsequently renamed as Samsung SmartThings. Our SmartThings cloud is an open platform that can be compatible with your mobile devices, home appliances, TVs and sensors for one seamless experience. The foundation of this connected ecosystem is a unified, powerful cloud that will be accessible through a single SmartThings app.

Key products are:

·    SmartThings Hub
·    SmartThings app
·    Various sensors and smart devices

To achieve a smart home, start with the SmartThings Hub and SmartThings app, and then add compatible devices and products. 

2 Set up your SmartThings App

First, get the free SmartThings mobile app for Android or iOS. After downloading and installing the SmartThings app on your smartphone:

1.  Go to SmartThings app
2.  Tap Sign In > Create account > Read and agree to Samsung Terms and Conditions
3.  Enter your email address and set up your password
4.  Enter your first, last name, ZIP code and date of birth
5.  Tap Next > Done
6.  Select your country > Tap Continue

 

You need to create a location to add your SmartThings Hub. Follow these steps:

1.  Tap on the Devices tab
2.  On the Location drop-down menu at the top of the screen > Tap Add location
3.  Name your new Location
4.  Tap Geolocation and drag the pin to set your physical location
5.  Tap Save

3 Set up your SmartThings Hub

1.  From the Dashboard > Tap Add device (Android: Tap Add Device Manually)
2.  Select Hubs > Tap Samsung SmartThings Hub
3.  Follow  the on-screen guide for connecting the Hub> Tap Next
4.  Enter the Welcome Code for your Hub (The unique 6-character Welcome Code for the Samsung SmartThings Hub (Hub v2) is packaged with the Hub and located on a card under the Hub's tray in the box)
5.  Tap Register your Hub
6.  Wait while the Hub downloads any available firmware upgrades. Do not unplug the Hub during the setup process. When the Hub shows solid green LEDs, tap Continue
7.  Wait for the success message that your Hub has been activated > Tap Done
8.  Your Hub is now connected and up and running, and you’re ready to connect your Things.

4 Connect your Things

1.  From the Dashboard > Tap Add device (Android: Tap Add Device Manually)
2.  Select the category of your device > Tap the name of the device
3.  While the Hub searches, perform the connection/inclusion process specific to that device
4.  Follow the on-screen pairing steps or consult the device's manual for instructions (When the device is discovered, a message will appear that the device was successfully connected to your SmartThings Hub)
5.  Tap Edit to rename the device > Tap Done > Tap Done again to confirm
6.  You’re all done! Enjoy your new smart home.

5 Edit or Remove a device

To Edit a device already connected to your Smart Things Home

  1. Tap My Home
  2. Tap Things
  3. Tap to Select a Thing
  4. Tap the Gear icon
  5. Edit the devices name, icon, temperature settings, etc
  6. Tap Done to save changes

 

To Remove a device connected to your Smart Things Home

  1. Tap My Home
  2. Tap Things
  3. Tap to select a Thing
  4. Tap the Gear icon
  5. Tap Remove
  6. Confirm removal.
