AUCKLAND, New Zealand – In Celebration of International E-Waste Day on October 14^th 2024, Samsung Electronics New Zealand will host two drive-through collection events in October. Those looking to declutter their living spaces and divert electronic waste from landfills can participate by dropping off their waste at Eden Park on 5^th October or at Samsung’s Northcote head office on 12^th October.

 

Accepting a wide variety of electronics from computers and TVs, to heat pumps and whiteware,¹ Samsung has partnered with New Zealand’s largest e-waste disposal company, Echo (formerly Computer Recycling)² for the second time this year. The drive-through collection events are completely cost-free to provide an easy, local solution for recycling and disposing of old electronics. With e-waste being notoriously difficult to dispose of, the drives aim to reduce the amount of electronic waste being sent to landfills.

 

“At Samsung New Zealand, we’re deeply committed to reducing our environmental impact. Our partnership with Echo allows Kiwis to dispose of their e-waste responsibly, free of charge, keeping harmful materials out of landfills. Through our energy efficient products, integration of recycled materials into some of our products and fully funded bi-annual e-waste collection days, we’re ensuring that sustainability is an important part of our business,” says Shannon Watts, Group Marketing Director at Samsung New Zealand.

 

To thank participants for recycling their e-waste responsibly, Samsung will be providing $50 e-vouchers to spend on samsung.com³. Simply scan the QR code provided upon drop-off and a voucher will be sent via email within 5 days.

 

Samsung’s e-waste collection events earlier this year, on May 4^th, were a major success. Seeing over 2,800 cars across two locations, the events were able to divert a whopping 41.6 tonnes of e-waste from landfills. With its second round of events this year, Samsung continues to highlight the growing issue of electronic waste and promote responsible e-waste management through these initiatives.

 

Staff at both locations will unload and remove visitor’s old electronics straight from the vehicle, allowing visitors to drive through and drop-off easily without having to leave their car. Those willing to attend can RSVP via the Facebook event pages (here for Eden Park or here for Northcote) or simply drive to the designated drop-off points at either of the below locations from 9am - 3pm on Saturday, October 5^th and 12^th.
