1. What was your proudest moment/achievements in Samsung? (You can think back on projects you have worked on, proposed ideas you have worked on and implemented)

There have been a few proudest moments and achievements within Samsung so this has been hard to choose. It’s a business that can give you a lot of opportunities to succeed. My proudest achievement so far has been working on the graduate project with my fellow 2021 cohort of graduates. Our graduate team was tasked with increasing the ratings and reviews on the Samsung.com website. During the year-long project, we were able to facilitate a successful project that exceeded our targets by 25%, as well as conduct new initiatives, such as an internal staff review competition, within the business. These results were presented at our SENZ town hall and became a template for other subsidiaries to use in their locations. Our working partner agency (Bazaarvoice) identified us as a best practise case in the SEAO region. It was a proud moment for the graduate team to have our hard work recognised. It was enjoyable to work with a team that came together so well. I’m also proud to have on boarded the MMR accounts to the Samsung JMF Marketing process in my current role. To see these accounts now working with processes and implementing strong marketing content has been richly rewarding.

2. How has Samsung enabled you to achieve the above? (What kind of resources were provided? Were there relevant trainings, helpful mentors etc)

Samsung enabled me to achieve the above by letting me grow quickly and offering me opportunities from the very beginning. Once I had the capabilities, I was given the confidence to be able to carry out tasks by my manager and the wider IM Retail team. A strong knowledge of the wider business and management by all around me, including detailed reasons why projects were run a certain way or what areas they foresaw for improvement, aided in giving me these capabilities. Furthermore, this was enhanced by the Graduate Mentorship Programme. Paired up with a junior staff, and later two senior business leaders, this programme allowed me to ask questions and digest what I had learnt in a welcoming, knowledgeable and educational environment. These resources meant I built a strong foundation as a base, so when it came to embarking on more of an “owned” project, I was well-equipped to start navigating the organisation with effective communication. Most importantly, throughout the moments above, I was still able to have the support touchstone of those mentors, and others, around me. I also benefited hugely from attending external and internal (Samsung U) training, which allowed me to hone technical and practical skills such as data presentation or strategic campaign flow. I’m really grateful for the time investment I’ve had from my fellow Samsung colleagues.

3. What advice would you give to a potential candidate who wants to work in Samsung?

Consider how your skills best fit those advertised in the position description. When you’re in your interview, make sure you have specific examples so you can showcase those skills within your answers to the questions asked. Research Samsung and find out how your personal values can resonate with the values of the organisation. The general knowledge you find out on this journey will also help assist you if you find yourself placed into the role. Once in the role, my primary piece of advice would be to have an open mind. Whilst you are placed within a team, your learning could come from anywhere within the business. Try to understand how the business works as a whole – as well as where you fit in. Your role is one piece of the puzzle, but without the rest of the pieces, you won’t have a jigsaw. Samsung is full of people who are talented and are exceptional at what they do. Often, they are experts within their fields. Take the time to absorb the advice they give and the knowledge they have to offer. Most importantly, have fun, enjoy all of the moments and say yes to every opportunity!
