How to upgrade the OS on a Samsung Smart TV
Operating System (OS) upgrades provide access to enhanced features, new features, and bug fixes. Our guide provides instructions for upgrading your Samsung TV to the newest OS version over the internet or by using a USB flash drive, so you can access and use these new features.
Models eligible for OS upgrade: 2023 Samsung Smart TVs, Smart Monitors, and Projectors (with some model exceptions).
Notes:
- The models and schedule for OS upgrades may vary by country.
- After upgrading to a new OS, you cannot revert to the previous version.
- If your device is reset during the OS upgrade, please perform the initial setup again before use.
- Video and audio settings may be reset to their default settings after upgrading the OS.
- After upgrading the OS, you can check if the current software version is 2011 or later by performing the following: navigate to Settings, then select All Settings, and then select Support. Select Software Update, and then select Current Version.
If the TV is connected to the internet, you can upgrade the OS to the newest version through a pop-up notification. To upgrade the OS, ensure the latest software version is installed. If the OS upgrade pop-up notification does not appear, please update to the latest software first.
Note: The upgrade notification will always appear when the TV is turned off and then on, regardless of the Auto Update settings.
If the TV is connected to the internet, you can use the TV menu to upgrade the OS to the newest version. To upgrade the OS, you must have the latest software version installed on your TV. Please update to the latest software version by selecting Update Now from the TV menu, and then proceed with the OS upgrade. If you have the latest software version installed on your TV, the OS upgrade will proceed immediately.
You can upgrade the software on your TV to the newest OS version by downloading the upgrade file from the Samsung website and saving it to a USB flash drive. The OS upgrade file (USB type) contains both the latest software version and the OS upgrade software file. Follow the instructions to update your software to the latest version before proceeding with the OS upgrade.
Notes:
- The file contains both the most recent version of the software and the newest OS upgrade software.
- Save the update package in the USB drive’s top-level folder. Otherwise, the TV will not be able to locate the update package.
- If there are multiple files, place all of the files in the USB drive’s top-level folder.
Note: The upgrade will take at least 10 minutes to complete. Then the TV will restart automatically. Do not turn off the TV or remove the USB flash drive until the upgrade is complete.
