How to adjust the sound output on your Samsung Smart TV

Audio devices that are connected to your Samsung Smart TV, such as speakers, soundbars, or headsets, can be set as the TV’s main sound output device. You can use the Sound Output menu to select your desired audio device. Audio devices can be connected to your TV using HDMI, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or an optical cable as well.

You can select your desired sound output device using the Sound Output menu. Detailed sound adjustments can be made using Expert Settings.

1 Select Settings on the left side of the screen, and then select All Settings. You can also select Sound Output in Quick Settings if desired.

2 Select Sound, and then select Sound Output.

3 When you select Sound Output, a list of connected audio devices will appear.

4 If you don't see your connected device in the list, or if it's the first time you're connecting a device, please refer to the next sections in this article.

Note: To connect a soundbar or speakers for the first time, you can use HDMI, Bluetooth, an optical cable, or Wi-Fi.

5 Select your desired device to begin using it as the TV output device.

Follow the steps below to connect an audio device to your TV using HDMI.

1 Connect the HDMI cable to the HDMI TO TV (ARC/eARC) port on the audio device.

2 Then, connect the other end of the cable to the HDMI IN (eARC) port on the TV.

3 If the current sound output does not change automatically, navigate to Settings, then select All Settings, and then select Sound. Select Sound Output and select the connected audio device.

Follow the steps below to connect an audio device to your TV using Bluetooth.

1 Navigate to Settings, then select All Settings, and then select Sound.

2 Select Sound Output, and then select Bluetooth Speaker List.

3 Make sure your Bluetooth device is in pairing mode, and then select your device from the list.

4 Select Pair and connect.

5 Select OK to pair and connect your Bluetooth audio device.

To connect your audio device and TV using Wi-Fi, you will need to register your audio device with the SmartThings app on your phone. Make sure your phone and TV are connected to the same Wi-Fi network to proceed.

1 Navigate to and open the SmartThings app on your phone, and then tap the Devices tab.

2 Tap the Add device icon (the plus sign), and then tap Add under Samsung devices.

3 To connect a speaker, select Speaker. To connect a soundbar instead, select Soundbar.

4 Select your Wi-Fi audio device, such as a Samsung Music Frame.

5 On your TV, navigate to Settings, then select All Settings, and then select Sound.

6 Select Sound Output, and then select your audio device.

Note: When the audio device is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the TV, it will appear in the device list in the TV's Sound Output menu.

Follow the steps below to connect an audio device to your TV using an optical cable.

1 Insert the optical audio cable into the DIGITAL AUDIO OUT (OPTICAL) port on the TV.

2 Insert the other end of the optical audio cable into the DIGITAL AUDIO IN (OPTICAL) port on the external device.

3 Navigate to Settings, then select All Settings, and then select Sound.

4 Select Sound Output.
