Samsung X SHOUT Gallery Popularises Intersection of Art X Tech The Frame Digital Art Gala Unveiled to Support Local Artists

Groundbreaking technology with The Frame's Matt Display designed to elevate true-to-life art details

Aug 31. 2022

Hong Kong - 31 August 2022 - Samsung Electronics H.K. Co., Ltd. steps up its efforts in propelling the digitisation of art by utilising new cutting-edge audio-visual technology. Back in 2018, Samsung has launched an innovative display that looks like an art frame - The Frame, infusing the concept of ART TECH to life, while firstly introduced the Art Store to Hong Kong, partnering with renowned art museums, galleries and artists around the world to bring home all the classics, which include the masterpieces from Louvre and Van Gogh Museum.

Apart from actively expanding the network of international art-partners, Samsung over the year has provided continuous support to the local digital artists, eventually becoming the designated digital display partner for the exhibitions of different scales. By taking a step further to supporting local artists, Samsung teams up with SHOUT Gallery and co-produces The Frame Digital Art Gala, a digital art collection exhibition, which displays artworks from young local artists.

The Gala was launched today at Hysan Place in Causeway Bay, unveiling paintings from four popular local artists - Eric Chow, Leon Lollipop, Vivian Ho and Offgod, showcasing the creative synergy of pop culture elements fused with art. All works are displayed on the Samsung The Frame 2022, a new Matt Display technology that showcases art in more realistic and lifelike details. Each piece of artwork is bundled with The Frame for sale, making it convenient for art lovers to acquire as a whole, while bringing art closer to everyone.

Marking the second collaboration with SHOUT Gallery, Samsung endeavours to identify and recognise talented international and local artists, curating multi-faceted art exhibitions to unremittingly promote the development of contemporary art. Earlier this month, SHOUT Gallery invited Korean pop artist Jibin Im (IG account @Jibin_im) to create "Frame Your Love" art collections for Samsung The Frame, drawing widespread buzz amongst young art collectors.

“Samsung is extremely honoured to continue partnering with SHOUT Art Hub & Gallery to promote Art Tech development, and support more budding artists," said Ellen Fu, Vice President, CE & Enterprise Business, Samsung Electronics H.K. Co., Ltd. "With QLED Technology to deliver a wide range of color volume, coupled with the new Matte Display that is anti-reflective and anti-fingerprint, The Frame 2022 presents masterpieces in more exquisite details. Customers will also receive the Samsung The Frame when they purchase a piece of art, allowing them to delight in a one-stop art viewing solution, with the visceral enjoyment to appreciate the finer details of the artwork on this special canvas."

"We are most grateful to Samsung for supporting this exhibition and for the joint efforts in promoting the development of diversified technological art, bringing popular digital art ever so close to people's lifestyles," said Christopher Tang, Founder, SHOUT Art Hub & Gallery. "The works of art are beautifully embellished by the artistic Samsung The Frame, which lends a unique personality to the art collection. The new Matt Display design of The Frame also elevates the overall art viewing experience."

Samsung The Frame - A novel presentation of works from young artists

Samsung and SHOUT Art Hub & Gallery have jointly curated this exhibition to support local art development, with a series of digital works displayed on the aesthetically-pleasing and artistic Samsung The Frame. The emerging local popular artists include Eric Chow (IG account @ericwychow), Leon Lollipop (IG account @leonlollipop), Vivian Ho (IG account @vvvvnho) and Offgod (IG account @yalocaloffgod).

The Samsung The Frame 2022's new Matte Display technology drastically reduces glare, reflection and prevents fingerprints, pulling the viewer closer to the piece of artwork itself. The Frame is a stunningly slim, minimalist bezel (24.9mm thick only) designed to look like a picture frame to complement any home décor effortlessly, and can also be assembled to form a feature wall and art display pillar.

The Frame's unique multi-colored magnetic bezel design perfectly complements the color scheme and style of different artworks, highlighting the individuality of different art collections, and allowing visitors to revel in the tapestry of contemporary art.

The line-up featuring 4 emerging local artists

Eric Chow, Hong Kong-based illustrator. After graduating from the London College of Communication, University of the Arts London, Eric Chow returned to Hong Kong where he founded his own studio, working with a wide range of internationally renowned media including FT Weekend, Monocle and many more. Eric's illustrations are characterised by his powerful surrealist and often humorous style. “The Fattie” series is his first foray into figure design, featuring Jeff, the chubby hamburger-shaped man, whose love for sports is easily overridden by his adoration for hamburgers, depicting mankind’s neverending conflict – constantly torn between food obsession and conventional beauty standards. The Fattie series is presented in digital form, seeking to popularise figure design culture.

LeonLollipop, Hong Kong-based artist and illustrator. Leon Lollipop is a master of animal portraiture, known for his mural “Gloomie the cat with cheeks”. A graduate of Central Saint Martin's College of Art in London, the prize-winning artist has exhibited his work in various international exhibitions. He constantly instills different elements and faces in his artworks – he once painted a mural on the exterior wall of a coffee shop in Hong Kong and another time created a 3D vinyl sculpture. This time, he brings to the exhibition a series of digital artworks featuring cheeky cats, with vivid expressions and cute attires, putting a smile on people’s faces.

Andrew Mok, a.k.a. Offgod, Hong Kong artist and fashion designer. As a Gen Z, Andrew Mok was born in the Internet and digital technology era. Being heavily influenced by music and western fashion culture, his series of digital works document his daily life in an avant-garde style. He has collaborated with several internationally renowned music composers and artists, including the likes of Justin Beiber, Trippie Redd, Miley Cyrus, and his digital works have already made their mark on the global stage. This time, he brings a new series of digital works to the exhibition and assembles 16 pieces into a stunning mural "Samsung The Frame Wall", which perfectly showcases his personal artistic style. Innovative TVs combined with art elements are instantly transformed into an art gallery, perfectly echoing Offgod's life motto - simplifying life and simplifying art.

Vivian Ho, Hong Kong-based artist and illustrator. Skilled in digital illustration, Vivian Ho is passionate about old Hong Kong and has held solo and joint exhibitions across the United States, Italy, Shanghai, Beijing and Hong Kong, promoting Hong Kong culture through art around the world. In this exhibition, Vivian Ho's digital works recreate the traditional Hong Kong style, detailing each street and town-centre, reminiscing the olden stories in colorful illustrations. Her work, brimming with the different sensories that Hong Kong bring, makes up the “Samsung The Frame Wall”, tenderly articulating the unique charm of old meets new.

Korean pop artist Jibin Im's Giant Balloon Bear Art Installation drops at Causeway Bay stop
Samsung has earlier collaborated with SHOUT Art Hub & Gallery by inviting Korean pop artist Jibin Im to create a series of Hong Kong-limited art collection, including the redesign of the famous "Everywhere" Bear Balloon Art Installation which has set foot in over 40 cities worldwide. With the word “CHILL” printed on the balloon bear's face, the artwork speaks one thought - despite thriving in the hustle and bustle of the city, people can still enjoy a chill-out lifestyle. It also echoes Samsung’s life attitude in developing home appliances and the brand’s vision of “Screens everywhere, screens for all.”  The "Everywhere" balloon art installation will be on tour at different SHOUT Galleries in Hong Kong and is now being displayed at the Hysan Place branch in Causeway Bay, perfectly complementing the local digital artworks at the venue, transcending the boundaries between art, technology and reality.
