Recognition of Circular Resources

The circular resources recognition policy recognizes valuable waste as resources if they meet the standards of the 'Framework Act on Resources Circularity'1) and pose no risk to human health or the environment.

DX Division identified 21 items as eligible for circular resource recognition through on-site consulting at three South Korean manufacturing sites in 2024, and three of these items were officially recognized as circular resources. DX Division plans to complete the recognition of all 21 items by 2027.

Since 2019, DS Division has obtained circular resource recognition certificates, with additional certification granted in 2024 for 12 inch wafer boxes (PC2) and PBT3) composites) at the Giheung, Hwaseong and Pyeongtaek sites, bringing the total to 18 certificates. As a result, 2,749 tonnes of waste per year are now recognized as resources. DS Division plans to continue increasing the number of recognized circular resource items.

  • The 'Act on Promotion of Transition to Circular Economy and Society' has replaced the 'Framework Act on Resources Circularity' on December 31, 2022. The 'Act on Promotion of Transition to Circular Economy and Society' has been amended and is in enforcement since 2024.

Achieved Certification for Circular Resource Product Labeling System

The recycling process of IC Trays involves sale of IC Trays to regenerating facility, reproduction of raw materials(flake and pellet), and repurchase of the remanufactured IC Trays from Samsung Electronics' DS Division. In March 2024, under the newly established Circular Resource Product Labeling System, we became the first manufacturer in South Korea to receive official certification from the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute for two IC Tray products* manufactured at the Onyang site. This system labels products as circular resource products if they use at least 10% of circular resources in their raw materials, based on the Act on Promotion of Transition to Circular Economy and Society. By repurchasing these items, DS Division is contributing to a virtuous cycle of resource circularity.
