Samsung Electronics was incorporated in 1969 as Samsung Electronics Manufacturing, and listed on the Korea Stock Exchange (KSE) on June 11, 1975. The company was renamed Samsung Electronics in 1984.

What are SEC's business divisions?

Samsung Electronics’s business divisions are organized in a two-pronged framework consisting of finished products and component businesses. The finished product business consists of the DX Division, which is responsible for the roduction and sales of TVs, monitors, refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners, HHPs, which includes smartphones, as well as network systems, and computers. The component business consists of the DS Division, which manufactures and sells DRAM, NAND flash, and mobile APs, and SDC, which manufactures and sells display panels (DPs), including mobile OLED panels and LCD panels for TVs and monitors. Harman (acquired in 2017) manufactures and sells products such as Digital cockpits, telematics, and speakers.

When does Samsung pay dividends?

- In 2017, Samsung Electronics initiated quarterly dividend payments. The Board of Directors, via resolution, determines whether to distribute a quarterly dividend, as well as the associated amount, for each of the first three quarters of a year. In accordance with relevant laws, such dividends are paid within 20 days of the corresponding Board of Directors resolution.
The payment of an end-year dividend (and the associated amount) is determined through a resolution at the Annual General Meeting of Shareholders. If such a dividend is distributed, it is paid within one month of the Annual General Meeting.
The record dates are March 31, June 30, and September 30 for quarterly dividends, and December 31 for the end-year dividend.

- Samsung Electronics pays dividends in Korean currency through the Korean Securities Depository, who transfers the dividend in US dollars to Citigroup in New York, who then distributes the dividend in US dollars to investors.
