Use Google Duo on your Galaxy S22
Make video calls with family and friends enjoyable and interactive using the Google Duo app on your Galaxy S22. With the One UI 4 update and later, Duo comes integrated into the phone for ease of access. During video calls, you can add visual effects, share your phone’s screen via Live sharing, or stream your video to a larger display (like a TV) with Smart View!
Note: Information provided applies to devices sold in Canada. Available screens and settings may vary for smartphones sold in other countries. Google Duo cannot be uninstalled on devices with One UI 4 or later, only disabled.
Note: Have a video call planned for later today? Make sure Duo is all set up so you can take advantage of its handy features while you catch up with your relative or friend that you have not seen in a while.
- Family: Choose between using silly camera effects during your call or creating a doodle. When doodling, you can draw your own creation or color in a pre-set template.
- Effects: Use humorous 3D effects to make your video call more fun. For example, you can make it look like you have antlers or are wearing cool sunglasses!
- AR Emojis: Get exclusive access to Samsung’s AR Emoji characters, including Bobby Beaver and more! They will create a virtual mask that makes it look like you are the character. Of course, if you have created an AR Emoji, you can use that, too!
- Portrait: Blur the background behind you to help you look your best and really stand out during calls.
- Auto-framing: Make the camera focus on the subject so there is less stuttering and blurring when video calling.
- Wide angle: Use wide angles during video calls so you can fit more into your video feed.
- Live sharing: Share your phone’s screen with the other people in the video call. It is similar to screen sharing in Zoom and other video apps. You can learn more about this in the next section.
- Low light: Have your video feed still appear bright even when there is low light or when you are in a dim setting.
- Mirror mode: Swap your camera’s view so it mirrors your actions and gestures.
- Smart View: Stream your video call to a bigger screen, such as a compatible smart TV! You will get a much larger view of the recipient’s video. Please see the second to last section of this FAQ to learn more.
Note: Need to share a document that’s on your phone, not on your computer? No worries, you can share your phone’s screen during video calls with Duo.
Note: While you are screen sharing, the selfie video feed is disabled. The recipient will not be able to see you.
Note: As amazing as the video quality is in the Google Duo app, it may be hard to see everything in the recipient's video feed on your phone. If you would like to view the video on a bigger screen, you can use Smart View to mirror the video call to a compatible Smart TV!
Note: You may be required to select Allow on the TV to complete the connection.
Note: You will still need to use the phone’s camera if you want to show your face.
Note: Even with Google Duo integrated into the phone, you still have the option to call friends and family using the built-in Samsung video call interface. When you select the Video call icon from the Contacts app, you will be given the option to use either service. If you would like to only use Google Duo, there is a simple way to change your preferred video call method.
