Galaxy Fold - Use apps (SM-F900W)
With your flexible phone comes flexibility for your apps, and they'll look better than ever on the Galaxy Fold's expanded screen. You can view apps full-screen when the phone is unfolded, open an app in a floating popup, and access up to 3 apps at the same time. Plus, you can start using one app on your phone's front screen and pick up where you left off once you unfold to the main screen. Whichever way you prefer to use your apps, there are endless possibilities to unfold.
Information provided applies to devices sold in Canada. Available screens and settings may vary for smartphones sold in other countries.
If you're in a hurry or want to keep things simple, you can view apps full-screen when your phone is opened or closed. With your phone folded, tap an app to open it on the front screen. To continue using the app on the main screen, just unfold your phone while the app is open. This feature is great when you find a video you want to watch on the larger screen.
Or, with your phone unfolded, tap an app to open it in full screen view. Perfect for gaming, reading, or watching videos.
To make using apps even easier, you can also view suggested apps on the Fold. Just tap Recents, and apps you've recently used within in the last 3 hours will display at the bottom of the screen.
Two apps are better than one, so three apps must be thrice the fun. When you really want to multitask with your apps, use split screen view on your Galaxy Fold.
To use 3 apps simultaneously in split screen view, unfold your phone, and then tap Recents to see your currently opened apps. Touch and hold the app preview window for the first app you’d like to open, and then drag the app to the right side of the screen. When you see a message that says "Drop here to open," let go. Next, touch and hold another app, and then drag it to the upper or bottom portion of the right screen. Finally, open a third app on the left portion of the screen. Tap Recents to make any changes.
You can resize apps by touching and dragging the vertical divider in between the open apps. To close a single app, tap the bar at the top of the app, and then tap the X. To close all the apps in split screen view, just drag the divider in the middle of the screen all the way to the right.
Split screen view is not supported on the front screen. Some apps do not support split screen view.
Apps don't need to take up all your screen space if you don't want them to. You can open apps in a small popup that you can move around your screen. Tap Recents to access your opened apps, and then touch and hold your desired app's icon. Next, tap Open in pop-up view.
You can also use Apps Edge. From any screen, swipe to the left to open the Apps Edge panel, and then touch and hold your desired app's icon. Drag it to the center of the screen. When you let go, the app will display in a floating popup.
You can resize the window by dragging the outline. To close an app, touch the bar at the top of the popup and then tap the X.
Certain apps, including YouTube, even support a handy picture-in-picture mode. While playing videos or navigating to a destination, the app will display in a floating window you can move around your screen when you exit the app.
Floating windows and picture-in-picture will transfer to the front screen when the Continue apps on front screen feature is enabled.
