Understanding the water usage of your Samsung washing machine is crucial to ensuring efficient cleaning performance. Federal standards have evolved to encourage reduced water and energy use in washing machines. Samsung's high-efficiency (HE) washers are engineered to maximize cleaning with minimal water, using HE detergent effectively. A lower water level is normal in these machines. Samsung front loaders typically use about 13 gallons per cycle, while top loaders may use up to 28 gallons. These machines efficiently move water through the laundry rather than fully immersing it, ensuring effective cleaning.

Transitioning from traditional to HE top loader washers, it's common to perceive insufficient water use. However, this is often a misconception. Traditional top loaders can use over 40 gallons per cycle, whereas Samsung HE models are much more efficient, using up to 28 gallons. Samsung top loaders feature "Auto Load Sensing," which intelligently adjusts the water level to the weight of the laundry, promoting efficient water use and effective cleaning.

Settings impacting water consumption

Adjusting certain settings can significantly increase water usage. Features like Extra Rinse, Aqua Jet, higher Soil levels, or choosing Heavy Duty cycles can lead to more water usage. Use these features wisely, keeping water conservation in mind.

Note: Available options may vary by model. Check the user manual or control panel for specific features.

Tips and notes

For bulky items, use the Bedding cycle for adequate water usage. When washing comforters, liquid detergent is recommended. For waterproof items, use the Waterproof cycle or Delicates cycle with Warm water and Medium spin. If laundry has dry spots or remains damp, the washer might be overloaded. Remove a few items for a balanced load, especially when washing bulky items like comforters.
