Last Update date : Apr 06. 2024

Charging your Galaxy device while gaming often leads to overheating. If you adjust your phone's charging settings, you can significantly reduce heat production and ensure a charge that better suits your gaming needs, which is what the “Pause USB PD charging when gaming” feature does. It temporarily halts battery charging during gameplay, which keeps your device cool and extends its battery life.

Playing video games on your Galaxy device while it charges forces the device to balance two power-intensive tasks: running the game and charging the battery. This can affect gaming performance and lead to quicker device overheating. Thankfully, the “Pause USB PD charging when gaming” function is a game-changer. By pausing battery charging temporarily, it allows your mobile device to prioritize system resources for the game, ensuring smoother gameplay and reducing overheating risk. Your Galaxy device fully dedicates itself to delivering the best gaming experience possible, without the usual charging drawbacks.

Notes:

  • Activation Conditions: The pause charging function is specific and requires certain conditions to activate. It only engages when your device is connected to a Power Delivery (PD) compatible charger of 25W or more, also supporting Programmable Power Supply (PPS) technology, with at least 20% battery charge. Moreover, a game must be running on your device.

  • Charger Compatibility: Only chargers supporting both PD and PPS technologies with a 25W or higher output can utilize this feature. This ensures optimal power management while gaming.

  • Included Accessories: It's worth noting that the necessary 25W fast charger for this feature usually does not come with the purchase of a Galaxy device. You might need to buy it separately to enjoy this functionality fully.

  • Model Availability: This feature’s availability varies by Galaxy device model. To check if your device is compatible and to activate the function, open the Gaming Hub app, and navigate to More > Game Booster > Pause USB PD charging when gaming.

To enable the pause charging feature during gaming on your Galaxy device, first connect the device to a PD-standard compliant charger of 25W or more. Then, open the Gaming Hub app and navigate to the Game Booster menu to toggle this feature on. This setup ensures an optimal gaming experience without charging interruptions.

Devices with One UI 6.0 or newer versions allow you to check this function’s compatibility directly in your device's settings, without needing a prior charger connection. For older UI versions, connecting to a compatible charger is necessary to activate and modify the pause charging function.

The pause charging feature during gaming optimizes your gaming experience on Galaxy devices by meeting specific requirements. To ensure effectiveness, please adhere to the following conditions:

  • A video game must be actively running on the device. The function won't activate outside gaming sessions.

  • Using a PD-standard compliant charger of 25W or more, also supporting PPS technology, with the battery at least 20% charged, is necessary. This ensures the device has enough energy to operate effectively without needing immediate charging.

Be aware that if your screen turns off or you exit the game, the pause charging function may temporarily deactivate, and your device may resume normal charging. Additionally, if your Galaxy device’s battery falls below 20%, or you're using a non-PD-compliant charger, the pause charging function won't be available, and your mobile device will follow standard charging procedures.
