Using the Camera app to locate your Galaxy SmartTag+ proves particularly handy in environments where auditory cues may be hard to perceive, like in libraries or other noise-sensitive areas.

Step 1. Open the SmartThings app on your mobile device.

Step 2. Select the Life tab (at the bottom of the screen).

Step 3. Navigate to the Find card and select the SmartTag+ you wish to locate.

Step 4. Tap the More icon and then tap Search nearby.

Step 5. Tap Find using camera.

Step 6. With the camera activated, the app will initiate an augmented reality (AR) experience to provide you with the precise direction in which your SmartTag+ is located.

Note: The sound feature of your SmartTag + is disabled while using “Find using camera” to improve battery consumption.

Requirements

The "Find using camera" feature for locating your Galaxy SmartTag+ with SmartThings Find requires the use of UWB (ultra-wideband) technology, a wireless communication protocol that provides enhanced spatial awareness.

This feature is available on the following devices: Galaxy S23+, Galaxy S23 Ultra, Galaxy S22+, Galaxy S22 Ultra, Galaxy S21+, Galaxy S21 Ultra, Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold2, Galaxy Z Fold3, and Galaxy Z Fold4.

Notes:

  • The UWB signal has an operating range of 15 meters (or 49 feet). To ensure successful detection, your SmartTag+ and Galaxy mobile device need to be in close proximity in an open space.
  • Obstacles in the environment can attenuate or block the UWB signal. In confined spaces like vehicle trunks or metal cabinets, the signal may not be detectable even when the SmartTag+ is nearby. In such cases, the "Find using camera" feature may not be enabled.
  • Please note that in small indoor spaces or if you have a cover or case on your Galaxy mobile device, the indicated location may differ from the actual location of the SmartTag+. It is recommended to remove any cases or covers before using SmartThings Find.

Troubleshooting

If the "Find using camera" feature remains disabled even when you are near your Galaxy SmartTag+, please consider the following:

  • Check UWB Support: Ensure that your Galaxy mobile device supports UWB technology, as this feature relies on UWB capabilities for operation.
  • SmartTag+ Battery Level: If your SmartTag+ has a low battery, the "Find using camera" feature may be disabled. Make sure your SmartTag+ is sufficiently charged for the feature to work properly.
  • Proximity and UWB Signal: The "Find using camera" feature requires close proximity between your Galaxy mobile device and the SmartTag+. They should be within approximately 15 meters (or 49 feet) of each other to enable the UWB signal detection. Please note that obstacles near the SmartTag+ can weaken the signal. If the SmartTag+ is inside a drawer, confined space, or behind a wall, the signal may be weak or unavailable, affecting the feature's usability and accuracy.

By addressing these factors, you can ensure the optimal functioning of the "Find Using Camera" feature with your SmartTag+.
