Why Does My Galaxy Z Flip6/Fold6 Request a PIN, Pattern, or Password Instead of Fingerprint or Face Recognition?

Last Update date : 2024-07-13

Is your Galaxy Z Flip6 or Fold6 suddenly requesting a PIN, pattern, or password instead of fingerprint or face recognition? Learn why this security feature activates and how to manage your device's authentication methods effectively.

Galaxy Z Fold6

If you set the screen lock type by biometrics recognition such as Fingerprints or Face recognition, the screen that requests a PIN, pattern, or password may appear instead of fingerprints or face recognition in the below cases, according to the policy of Android OS:

  • If the device is restarted by the user or automatically

  • If you set the Fingerprints for screen lock type and it has been more than 72 hours since the last time you unlocked with a PIN, Pattern, or Password.

  • If you set the Face Recognition for screen lock type and it has been more than 24 hours since the last time you unlocked with a PIN, Pattern, or Password, or you haven’t used the device for more than 4 hours.

Note:

  • This is an intended concept for enhanced device security, and you can also use only a PIN, Pattern, or Password to unlock the screen instead of using Fingerprints or Face recognition after restarting the device or when you don’t use the device at some times.
