Is Galaxy S22 series an IP68 (water and dust resistant) compliant device?

Last Update date : 2022-05-17

The Galaxy S22 Series features an IP68 rating, the Galaxy Standard of water and dust resistance.

The Galaxy S22 Series supports IP68 water and dust resistance.

Generally when using water and dust resistance device, keep the following precautions carefully in mind to maintain the water and dust resistance of your device. Failure to do so may result in damage to your device.

1 Do not immerse the device in fresh water deeper than 1.5 m or keep it submerged for more than 30 minutes.

If the device is immersed in any liquid other than fresh water, such as salt water, ionized water, or an alcoholic beverage, liquid will enter the device faster.

2 Do not expose the device to water moving with force.
3 If the device is exposed to fresh water, dry it thoroughly with a clean, soft cloth.

If the device comes into contact with other liquids, such as salt water, swimming pool water, soapy water, oil, perfume, sunscreen, hand cleaner, or chemical products like cosmetics, rinse it thoroughly with fresh water and dry it thoroughly with a clean, soft cloth. If you do not follow these instructions, the performance and appearance of the device may suffer.

4 If the device has been immersed in water or the microphone or speaker is wet, sound may not be heard clearly during a call.

Dry the device thoroughly after wiping it with a dry cloth.

5 The touchscreen and other features may not work properly if the device is used in water.
6 If the device is dropped or receives an impact, the water and dust resistant features of the device may be damaged.

Sound may not be heard clearly during a call if the device has been immersed in water or the speaker is wet, because water may get into the speaker hole during exposure underwater.

In this case:

  • please wipe the device smoothly with a dry, soft cloth and allow it to dry completely before using it. Shake the device gently a few times while holding the speaker face down for faster drying.
  • Please check the device's sound state while making a call for a period of time at this time, as this moisture can also be removed by speaker vibration during a call.

Note: if some moisture remains on the Mesh in front of the speaker, the sound may not be heard clearly.

Unfortunately it is not possible to use the fingerprint under water, the device is IP68-certified, but fingerprint recognition is blocked when the device is under water.

The IP68 rating means complete dust protection and temporary immersion in up to 1.5m of freshwater for up to 30 minutes. However, charging the device while wet after the USB port has been exposed to water may result in short circuits and device damage.

To avoid this, the device restricts charging when the USB port is contaminated by humidity, moisture, or water, and displays a caution notification text with a water recognition icon on both the notification panel and the AOD screen.

Note: At that time, thoroughly dry the device before use and store it in a well-ventilated area for a specified period of time.
