How to fix the washing machine with 4E - 4C - 4C1 error?

Last Update date : 2024-05-30

The 4E (4C) error code indicates that the washing machine has detected a problem with the water supply. The most common reason for this error is a blocked or kinked water supply hose. Try the below troubleshooting steps to resolve it.

4C
1 Check the water hose

A problem with the water supply is usually the result of low water pressure or a low flow rate on the mains water supply to the machine. This means that the water feeding into the machine is not flowing with enough force.

1.   Fully power off your washing machine at the mains.

2.   Move the machine forward to give access to the water hoses.

3.   Check that there are no kinks or bends in the water hose connected to the machine.

2 Check the water supply

Check that the water tap connected to the washing machine is open to full.

3 Clean the water hose mesh filter

Clean the water hose mesh filter at least twice a year to prevent build up. Learn more.

4 Clean the dispenser drawer

Occasionally, a 4C check code error message may be displayed if there is a blockage in the dispenser drawer, Learn more.

5 Check the Drain hose position.

Over the edge of a wash basin

The drain hose must be placed between 60 cm and 90 cm above the floor. To keep the spout of the drain hose bent, use the supplied plastic hose guide (A). Secure the guide to the wall using a hook to ensure stable drainage.

Place the drain pip over the side of a sink

In a drain standpipe

The drain pipe should be between 60 cm and 90 cm high (*). It is advisable to use a 65 cm high vertical pipe.

  • To ensure the drain hose stays in position, use the plastic hose guide provided.
  • To prevent the siphoning of water flow during drainage, make sure to insert the drain hose 15 cm in the drain pipe.
  • To prevent the drain hose from moving around, secure the hose guide to the wall.

Drain standpipe requirements:

  • Minimum diameter of 5 cm.
  • Minimum carry-away capacity of 60 litres per minute.
Place the drain in a Standpipe

If the drain hose is installed below 60 cm, water may drain into the washer's cycles due to a siphoning effect. This causes the washing machine to display the 4C or LC error code. Learn more.
