How to back up and restore data on your Galaxy XR

The Galaxy XR does not support automatic data backup and restoration features or apps. However, you can manually copy your files using a USB Type-C cable compatible with data transfer. This guide will walk you through the process of connecting your Galaxy XR to your phone or a computer and securely transferring your data to ensure your important files remain safe.

How to back up and restore data on your Galaxy XR

Transfer data using your phone

Copy files from your headset

To manually copy data from your Galaxy XR to your phone, follow these steps:

  1. First, remove your headset and place it on a flat surface. Then, connect the devices using a USB Type-C to Type-C cable. Connect one end to your phone's USB-C port and the other to the USB-C port on the Galaxy XR.
  2. Next, with the protective cover removed, put on your headset. If it doesn't turn on automatically, press and hold the Top button to power it on. Then, remove your headset and place it on a flat surface.
Note: If you have a lock screen set on your Galaxy XR, you will need to unlock the screen before proceeding with the data transfer.
  3. Using your phone, tap the MTP Host Downloads connection method twice from the "Choose an app for the USB device" pop-up. If the pop-up doesn't appear, swipe down from the top left side of the phone's screen to open the Notification panel. Then, tap the Android System (Tap for other USB options) notification and tap Connected device in the "USB controlled by" section. The pop-up will appear.
  4. Next, put your headset on again with the protective cover removed, and then point to and select Allow from the pop-up to grant access to your phone. Then, remove your headset and place it back on a flat surface.
  5. Now, using your phone, select the files or folders you wish to back up from the Galaxy XR on your phone. If needed, select any additional folders that contain your desired files. Touch and hold the file(s) or folder(s) you want to move.
  6. To copy or move your files, tap the More options icon (the three vertical dots) in the top right corner, then tap Copy to or Move to.
  7. Finally, choose the backup path on your phone. You can use the default Downloads folder. Or, navigate to a specific path by tapping the Show roots icon (the three horizontal lines) in the top left corner, then tapping your phone, and then the desired folder.
  8. Once you've found where you want to put the file, tap Move or tap Copy.

Sync data across your accounts

Note
Wi-Fi is required to sync your data on your Galaxy XR. Ensure your headset is connected to a stable Wi-Fi network before enabling sync settings. If you encounter issues, check your Wi-Fi connection.

Syncing your Galaxy XR headset with your Samsung or Google accounts ensures your data stays up-to-date and accessible across devices in real-time. Unlike backup and restore, which save a snapshot of your data for recovery, or using My Files copy and move to manually transfer files, syncing automatically updates your data across devices as changes occur.

To manage your settings:

  1. With the protective cover removed, put on your headset. If it doesn't turn on automatically, press and hold the Top button to power it on.
  2. Next, open the Launcher. Press the Top button, or use the hand gesture; hold your palm in front of you until the menu icon appears, then pinch your thumb and index fingers together.
  3. Point to and pinch Settings, and then point to and pinch Accounts.
  4. Point to and pinch your Samsung or Google account, and then point to and pinch Sync account
  5. Point to and pinch the switch(s) next to your desired apps and data to turn auto sync on or off for them. Some apps you can sync include Samsung Notes, Contacts, Calendar, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth.
  6. Point to and pinch the Back icon twice at the top of the screen to return to the Accounts menu. Make sure the switch next to Auto sync data is turned on for automatic syncing.
