One UI 3.1 updates for your Galaxy phone

A bunch of new photo and video features are waiting for you on Galaxy S21 5G, Galaxy Note20 5G, Galaxy S20 5G devices with the One UI 3.1 update. If you love filming on the go, you can now capture your voice through both your Galaxy Buds and Galaxy phone with the Multi mic recording feature. The Object eraser tool lets you remove items from your photos with just a quick tap. And when you are sharing your photos with friends, use the new Private Share option to control how your photos are received by others. Some previous features have received improvements as well, like taking photos with Single Take and protecting your eyesight with Eye comfort shield.

Note: Information provided applies to devices sold in Canada. Supported features may vary by device and software version. Available screens and settings may vary for smartphones sold in other countries.

Do you need to remove something from your photo, like a book or a chair in the background? The Object eraser tool on One UI 3.1 allows you to do just that. If you tap the area containing the item you would like to remove, the tool will delete it without changing anything else in the photo. Before you can use the Object eraser, you will need to add the tool.

Navigate to and open Gallery, and then select the photo you want to edit. Tap the Edit icon at the bottom (it looks like a pencil), and then tap the More options icon (the three vertical dots). Tap Labs, and then tap the switch next to "Object eraser" to add it to your editor.

Tap Back, swipe left on the bottom of the screen, and then tap the new Object eraser icon (it looks like an eraser). Tap an object or section of your photo, and then tap Erase to remove it. Tap the checkmark icon to save the image. If you are not happy with how it looks, tap the X icon and then try again.

The new Multi mic recording feature on One UI 3.1 devices lets you simultaneously record audio through your phone and a connected Bluetooth device, like your Galaxy Buds Pro. This feature will ensure your voice carries clearly in your videos, even if you are doing something else at the same time, like playing a game or listening to music. You will need to use Pro Video mode to access Multi mic recording.

Using two fingers, swipe down from the top of your phone’s screen to open Quick settings. Touch and hold the Bluetooth icon to open the Bluetooth menu. Make sure your earbuds are synced and appear under Paired devices.

Next, navigate to and open the Camera app, and then tap MORE. Tap PRO VIDEO, and then tap the Microphone button.

Choose how you would like to record audio from the available options, i.e. BT Mix will use both the phone's microphones, and your headset microphones.

If you are concerned about some of the photos you are sharing, you can use the Private Share option on your One UI 3.1 device. This will prevent recipients from sharing your photos in the future. You can also remove location metadata from photos that you are sending to others.

Note: Your phone needs to have an active SIM card to use Private Share.

First, navigate to the photo you would like to share, and then tap the Share icon. To remove location information from the photo, tap Remove location data at the top of the screen.

Private Share

Swipe to and tap Private Share to choose a recipient to share your photo with. You can search for a contact or choose a recent contact.

Note: To add a shortcut to your Apps screen, tap the Settings icon and then tap the switch next to Add Private Share to Apps screen.

Tap the name of your chosen contact, and then tap Send.

If you would like to capture several photos of your friends or a few selfies at once, you can use the Galaxy Note20 5G's or the Galaxy S21 5G’s Single Take. Along with the photos, this feature will generate a short video for you too.

Single Take

With the One UI 3.1 update, Galaxy S20 5G users can start enjoying Single Take’s improved options as well, like speed effects and facial detection.

Sometimes, your phone screen’s brightness can be a little too much for your eyes, especially at night. To protect your vision, you can use Eye comfort shield (or Blue light filter on previous OS versions).

Eye comfort shield

Eye comfort shield can help you fall asleep easier by changing your screen to a warmer tone automatically as the day progresses. When you look at your phone at night, your eyes will adjust to the screen’s color without getting irritated.
